Meet Raphael Guillen

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Raphael Guillen a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Raphael, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
We live in a demanding stressful world, self-care is necessary for your well being and mental health. It took me some years of experience to learn the importance of this. There’s many things one can do to help improve way of life. For myself I have learned that I get bored very easily and a daily, weekly routine is not for me. I need to stay active mentally and physically. What has helped me over the recent years for my physical well being is running and weight training a few times throughout the week and Jiu Jitsu the other days. Jiu Jitsu has also been a tremendous help with keeping me physically and mentally balanced. It’s both challenging and rewarding. I also read self improving books once in a while when time allows.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m the owner and founder of LOCKANDCRAWL LLC. We’re an apparel and accessory company for the off-road, rock crawling and overland community. We pride ourselves in providing you with in stock quality merchandise, at reasonable prices and fast same day shipping for a wonderful customer experience.

LOCKANDCRAWL is not just an apparel company, we live and breathe the sport our company was designed after. We rock crawl and overland in some of America’s most challenging and scenic locations, while documenting and sharing our experience with our social media supporters.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Well first and foremost, I’m a social person. Although I do appreciate my alone time, I do like meeting new people. This helps with not just networking but also has led to making friends with some amazing people! The off-road community is unique in a sense that we all look out for each other. We’re out in remote areas in rough terrain where things can go very bad. Just like myself, everyone I have met has and or is willing to help others in need.

I’m very active on social media, I believe that it’s our responsibility as individuals to share our knowledge. I share my experiences by creating reels and tell a story to encourage others to get out there and adventure. I’m asked questions often regarding my Jeep build, areas and or trails I explore and I answer all of them, and I don’t hold back on details. I believe that this has lead to the tens of thousands of LOCKANDCRAWL followers on all social media platforms I have today.

If I can give your readers something to live by, is to be your authentic self. Not everyone is going to like you, which is okay… The right people will gravitate towards you and will appreciate you for all of who you are.

The adventure seeker!

Although we love the adrenaline we get from completing challenging obstacles when rock crawling, or exploring the unknown to find the perfect camp spot that very few can get too. We don’t limit ourselves to just off-road adventures. Our focus is and will always be living life to the fullest, whatever that means to you. I believe everyone of us has that adventure spirit, some just need to be comfortable with being uncomfortable and just get out there and experience it.
