We recently connected with Raquel Muller and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Raquel , thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
Since I was a child I’ve had a cheery disposition, perhaps inherited from and modeled after my mother and grandmother. I’ve also experienced positive results and responses from having an optimistic attitude, which has also served to reinforce this. Later in life, I’ve engaged in spiritual coaching and incorporated universal law as well as daily gratitude practice on a daily basis.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
As a financial educator, I love that I get to empower women, especially women business owners, to take control of their finances and their financial destiny. Many women ignore their finances or defer to their spouses on major financial decisions for their future, and this is doing ourselves a disservice. I love to teach women financial literacy so they can feel more confident about their money decisions, and I get to coach them in creating a plan to create the lives they dream about.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
3 qualities/skills/knowledge that have been super impactful for me have been persistence, growth-mindset and building nurturing relationships.
Advice I would offer would be :
Have a growth mindset, meaning the idea that anything you do not know now can be learned, and learning is a lifelong process. As we learn we become more evolved and more actualized versions of ourselves. We reach for our potential which allows us to bring higher level contributions to our loved ones and to the world.
Be persistent as you pursue the things you want. You will likely find that your dream results take a lot longer to materialize than you thought, but you must not give up. Further, you must know in your heart that you are worthy and capable of all the great things you desire to be, do, and have, and you must have a clear vision of what you want so that it inspires you every day and keeps you moving forward.
Third, NO ONE who is highly successful and happy has done it by themselves alone. We need support, mentorship, guidance. This is especially true when we are pursuing something unlike what we’ve ever experienced before, something bigger and more ambitious. People will try to deter and protect us, but if we surround ourselves with others who believe in us, and/or who have accomplished it themselves, we cannot fail.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
A book that has been super impactful for me is The Big Leap by Dr. Gay Hendricks. It introduces the concept of the “upper limit problem,” the idea that as we approach our self-imposed limits we subconsciously sabotage our own efforts to keep us in our comfortable place. This prevents us from growing to higher levels, unless we can be aware of it and actively do things to override it. It also never goes away. Overriding our upper limit is a lifelong process because as we grow we hit a new ceiling, a new upper limit we must overcome.
Another powerful concept from this book is the “zone of genius.” This is the idea that to be successful and fulfilled we should spend most of our time and energy in activities for which we are uniquely suited and which we can do effortlessly. As we do this we can not only stay in joy but we can bring much better quality to our work, our contributions, and to the lives of the people we want to serve.
