Meet Ras Beats

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ras Beats. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ras below.

Ras, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

One of the main lessons of being an independent musician/producer in my experience is learning to become self-reliant, while a the same time collaborating with other artists, rappers in my case. Getting things done when no one is reminding you of deadlines cause you are setting your own. Getting projects done, and not letting time pass without creating and finishing projects you decided on pursuing. So I would say it comes from me, and reminding myself of the positives of getting things done if you aren’t feeling that motivation for a day or two. Sticking to the plan. The motivation becomes the work itself and seeing it finished.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am a Hip Hop artist & producer in New York City. I have 7 EPs and LPs released under my name as solo projects or collaborations. My aim with all the music I make is to make you stop, pay attention, and kinda forget what’s goin around you for 3-4 minutes. To have the effect on listeners that so much music have had on me.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three qualities that have helped me most is, learning patience, with that being able to see things through better, finishing projects and releasing them. Being critical with your own creations without being overly critical, making your stuff be the best it can be, but not overly so that it stops you from doing things and creating, taking the time to work on my craft before releasing music, mastering it if I may say so myself

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

So many important things, I’m fortunate to have a great mother and have had a great father. On of the most important things my father showed me, and taught me by his actions, was to love music, to look for music that made an impact on me. To enjoy whatever music was in front of me if I liked it, but also seek out lesser known stuff that would be worth the effort. I’m not sure what my relationship with music would be like without him. It’s a massive gift he gave me with that.
