We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rasheed Abdullah . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rasheed below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Rasheed with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I get my work ethic from my mom she use to wake me up at 6 AM for school that started at 8AM when I was younger and that Shit stuck with me she use to say, you can’t get nothing done late in the day or afternoon that way if you up early and you mess up or make a mistake you still got time to redo whatever that maybe, so that get things done stuck with me. I just feel like I need to get the things done that I wanna do
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a Artist 1st I own my independent music label ( WyldLyfe MusikGroup ) I’ve been doing music since I was a kid like 12 years old I use to single all the oldies at my moms party’s when she let me come down to see all the people I was a entertainer naturally. As I grew older I got more involved with music. But I also got involved with my surroundings so I started hustling to make money and lost track of music and what I need to do because the streets and my environment made me have to learn and focus on survival skills because it was kill or be killed. And by the time I knew it I was back N forth to jail for assaults and other things involving weapons, and without the right things to carry a weapon/ gun I ended up letting my anger get the best of me and landed in prison for 2nd degree burglary, and 2nd degree assault and possession of a firearm I was still doing music but not as much it was a team I was apart of kalled. Mch money team. By me catching them cases I was more determined to leave my voice in the streets why I go away so I started going harder on music putting more time into it and getting my craft right. Once It was time for me to go for 40months I ended up fighting a lot there so that landed me in solitary confinement where I can only write letters and eat the 3 meals they served me. So to past time I would freestyle through the cracks of the doors with the other guys who was locked in solitary confinement with me. And I came out of them 40 months with a plan on pursuing a music career and building something different from my street life of trouble. I went to prison from 2007 till the end of 2011, once I got home I continued doing what made me happy and sane which was music, once I got back in the studio I just knew this was where I need it to be and I just been grinding there and in 2019 I was marketing my music with a couple of companies and ended up getting a invite to join Bentley records and grow as a artist wasnt no body em really supporting my music so it was perfect timing they came along I had a offer from rockstar entertainment but it was a bad deal a 360 where they get to own me and Bentley wasn’t like dat now it’s 2023 and I’m more excited because I make money off of my music and I have built my own label to help other artist I feel needs some support like I got from Bentley and Bentley helps me exploit that factor in my music business with my independent label and that’s what it’s all about. I have a show on August 27th at the Red Sea in Minneapolis Minnesota, I also have a tour coming up this year with my Record label bentleyrecords,
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Staying to my self and learning more about my self was the most important thing for me, and learning to survive in the streets gave me skills on how to survive in life, and just keeping a positive mindset about the unknown helped me alot as well And the best way to improve is to keep working at whatever it is you are trying to do
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
My biggest area in growth was building my brand and understanding what is that I need to do to make things happen for me and my bra d to be successful
