We were lucky to catch up with Rasheid Shamsiddeen recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rasheid , really appreciate you joining us to talk about a really relevant, albeit unfortunate topic – layoffs and getting fired. Can you talk to us about your experience and how you overcame being let go?
I’ve never been fired or faced a layoff. I honestly would label myself the work horse for every employer I’ve ever worked for. The employee that made other business tons of money, that was ME! Up sales and great customer service, only to receive a pat on the back or a regular minimum wage pay check. I’ve held hundreds of job titles, ranging from Plumbers Assistant to Cashier at the local convenience store. I usually stop coming to work because of overworked, underpaid or under appreciated around two months into a job. My advice for anyone facing a lay off or termination is to remain positive! There is always a better opportunity waiting ahead and maybe your calling is entrepreneurship (to create your own destiny). Things happen for reasons!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Hello readers, I currently own and operate the best vintage clothing store in Arizona, Life’s 💥 Closet! The best part about my job, making people happy by using fashion and clothing. I would consider my items, wearable art! Great timeless pieces that you rarely see anymore! The next great thing about my job is meeting new people. Majority of my clientele are performers/entertainers. With customers ranging from rappers, chefs, ultimate fighters, business owners, comedians, etc. It’s clear that Life’s 💥 Closet fan base is uniquely like no other. As far as future plans? We plan on expanding! Tucson maybe!! Sales, Sales and more Sales. Sales are necessary in order to become the #1 Dopest Vintage Clothing Shop in the world!!! We also have the fairly new, Life’s Closet Arizona Scavenger Hunt happening every week on TikTok. A creative way to advertise and give back to the community at the same time.

Every day is a new journey for Life’s 💥 Closet. We look forward to the future and are currently enjoying the process!!!!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities or skills that were the most impactful in my journey consist of self worth, self acceptance and fearlessness. Self worth helped me realize, – I’m more than just minimum wage and – I’m also more than just a being used and abused by employees/friends/family.
Secondly, the skill of self acceptance helped impact my journey the most. Fully accepting my own flaws and having a deeper understanding of myself save me a lot of time in the long run. Less time worrying about others and their personal opinions. More time to focus on goals and dreams. Advice on Self Acceptance:
-Stop caring
-Everyone has an opinion but only yours should matter the most!! -Never lose your vision because of what others feel or think. You accept you and the world will follow…
Lastly, the quality of being fearless impacted my journey the most! Vintage can be scary! Fully understanding vintage clothing takes a lot of time and requires a lot of research. I made the decision to learn by any means necessary, regardless of how much time it would take or regardless of how much money it would cost. I learned vintage like the back of my hand, everything from stitching to fabric. I became a Vintage Scholar fast and success eventually started peak its head out…. Fear??? Fear could have easily killed my dreams like it killed so many of my peers dreams growing up. I’ve witnessed some of the most creative thoughts/ideas disappear into thin air because of fear. Life’s Closet wouldn’t exist if fear lived here! The Day we Fear Anything, is the day we stop learning and living…..
Best advice for the newbies:
– Be You! Self acceptance.
You should be your biggest fan in Life’
– Care but Don’t Care! Care about what really matters’… Pick and Choose what to care about
(sounds simple right?, it’s not)
– Fear??? Live life eyes wide open’
(Train your brain to view fear as a challenge or obstacle)

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Life’s 💥 Closet is always looking to collaborate with new people/businesses! We Call It Making Alliances !!!
(Similar to the TV Show Game Of Thrones) (Castle Closet’)
Collaboration through Social Media content, Clothing, Business, etc….. Pretty open minded and easy going. Let me know your idea or let’s create a dope idea.
Make it happen!!!
