We recently connected with Raye Cole Music and have shared our conversation below.
Raye, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience is a result of my upbringing. I was raised in a matriarch with strong women that were loving and kind but they were soldiers in their own right. I was taught from a young age that I could do anything that I put my mind to. I learned about overcoming obstacles early. I grew up during the crack epidemic. This epidemic deeply affected our family. At an early age, I learned a lot of hard truths and it shaped the way that I looked at the world. It shaped the way I viewed overcoming obstacles and going against the odds….

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Raye Cole Music. I am a singer – songwriter and vocal instructor. I enjoy art, live music, and fashion. I enjoy creating music, poetry, and other creative works. I am currently working with different affiliate and ambassador programs through my social media platforms. I’m currently an ambassador for Jessica Simpson Style, Avon, Opi UK, Rainbow Fashion, Kiss Nails, Lugz Boots, Nature Made to name a few. I’m currently working on two new songs that I hope to have released soon.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three things that are important for anyone starting their journey is create a vision board, have a budget, and be mindful of how you treat people.
A vision board will help you map out your short term and long term goals and what steps you need to take. When I first started I used the wall as my vision board. I accomplished everything but one thing.
A budget is important because making music/art can cost to create and promote. Unless you have someone that is backing you, you will need your own .money. When you have your own money, you don’t have to tolerate disrespect or bad behavior.
Lastly, be mindful of how you treat people. You can be up today and down tomorrow. The same people you see going up, you may see them coming down. Be humble and thankful for the people that God sends you.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
One of the most impactful things that my parents did for me was to encourage me to sing. I wouldn’t even know my mom was listening until she would say something. I remember she told me I was singing in my sleep. She told me when she was pregnant with me, she would often be underneath my dad’s mom who has a beautiful voice… And she would sing for her. My mom always told me I had a great voice. Had she not, I probably wouldn’t have even known it. Her and my grandma Maggie. My dad encourages me. When he first started coming to see me sing, he told me that I remind him of Aretha Franklin. My dad isn’t someone who just talks to talk… So that meant a lot to me.
