Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Raylynne Perez-Eggert. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Raylynne, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I think I have my parents to thank for a lot of my baseline confidence and self-esteem, they were outstanding in building me up growing up. When I finally was out working I had a bit of a fear of public speaking, but you know what cured it? I took a job as a tour guide at Space Center Houston. We would give tours to around a hundred people or more at a time. You realize that a lot about people. How to present yourself, how to explain things, how to guide them. It was a great experience and really helped kill my fear of public speaking, which has been critical with running Houston Film Fanatics.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Houston Film Fanatics is a movie group that basically loves all things entertainment. From movie, to TV, to theater and gaming. We are a group that tries to shy away from the overly stuffy reviews and content. We We are a group that likes talking about pop culture and sharing it with like-minded people. We offer interviews, reviews, giveaways, and more.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say the three qualities that served me the best are being hardworking, unafraid to drive into new experiences, and being open to learning. There have been more times that I can count where I have been put in front of a group of people and told, “Hey you are interviewing this person for this project in 2 mins.” And I have never even seen a trailer for the project or even know this person’s role. So being able to quickly research something and walking into an interview fully prepared to talk about something I know little about has been a challenge, but a fun one I have enjoyed facing. You just have to learn to be able to pivot at a moments notice.
I will also say this group has been around since 2011 and it took a lot of work and late nights to truly build it to what it is. A lot of help from friends and family. But I genuinely love this and am passionate about it. So a lot of the time it doesn’t feel like work.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
The amount of people who have helped me get to where I am today is huge. I can’t ever say it was just one person. I have to give love to some old coworkers of mine who helped initially create HFF and gave me a platform to be able to grow. I have to give so much love to my family who had to be there for all the late nights I had to spend working and all of the family events I unfortunately had to miss. I also have to give major props to my friends who donated their time to helping filming, editing, and jumping in for interviews and hosting. Honestly things like this can really take a village and HFF is no exception.
