Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rebecca Adelman, Esq.. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Rebecca with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
From the age of 4, my entrepreneurial journey began with not one, but two businesses—a shoeshine service and a rock painting stand, creatively launched with the encouragement of my business-savvy father. He instilled in me the importance of independence and the value of hard work and a dollar, which became the foundation of my work ethic. Each rock I painted and every shoe I shined were early lessons in how passion meets discipline to achieve goals and positively impact others and add money to my bank account.
At the age of 5, I had to retire these ventures to start kindergarten, marking the end of my first business chapter but setting the stage for my future endeavors. My journey continued as I became an accomplished musician, channeling the same dedication into my art. Pursuing higher education, I attended college, followed by graduate school and law school, each step building on the disciplined approach I learned as a young entrepreneur.
Today, I run my own legal practice, where the intersection of passion and discipline that began with a paintbrush and polish in hand continues to drive my professional and personal successes. This lifelong commitment to excellence and impact is a testament to a work ethic rooted in those early days of entrepreneurial spirit.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m Rebecca Adelman, a mother, attorney, thought leader, communicator, entrepreneur, visionary, and leader. I spearhead multiple ventures, each distinct yet connected by a common thread of adding value and creating a meaningful legacy, drawing inspiration from my family’s legacy of entrepreneurship and community leadership.
At the heart of my professional journey is my law firm, which specializes in business defense litigation and risk management with expertise in healthcare and senior living. What sets us apart is our holistic approach, integrating legal expertise with a deep understanding of the needs and nuances of our clients. This approach not only defends but also educates and empowers healthcare providers to improve quality of life and care. Our mission is to provide a client-centric experience for all the industries we serve.
Parallel to my legal practice, I founded Guide Path, a pioneering venture in the senior living sector that provides education, training, and certification programs and solutions for residents, families and senior living leaders and staff. Guide Path embodies my vision for a future where elder care is seamlessly integrated with comprehensive risk management strategies, ensuring that both caregivers and residents thrive. Our programs are designed to foster culture change, enhance staff empowerment, and improve care standards across communities.
Beyond my professional roles, I have established a Montessori school, reflecting my commitment to education and development from the earliest stages of life. This school is a manifestation of my belief in nurturing potential and fostering a supportive, engaging educational environment.
One of the most exciting aspects of my work is the ability to influence and improve the lives of diverse groups—from children learning foundational skills in Montessori settings to elders receiving compassionate care in senior living communities. This breadth of impact is not just my profession; it’s my passion and my contribution to a legacy that honors my ancestors—entrepreneurs and community leaders who instilled in me the values I live and work by today.
Looking ahead, there are several exciting developments, including expanding Guide Path’s reach globally and further integrating innovative care practices into our curriculum. Each step forward is geared toward enhancing quality of life for all, continuing the legacy of service and leadership that defines my personal and professional journey.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey, the three pivotal elements that have most significantly shaped my path are trust, core relationships, and a clear future vision. Each has played a crucial role in my successes and has been integral in navigating the challenges along the way.
Trust has been the foundation of my journey—trust in myself, trust in the training and education I have received, trust in the people around me, and trust in my faith. This multifaceted trust has empowered me to take bold steps and make decisions that align with my values and goals. For those starting out, my advice is to cultivate self-confidence, self-compassion and faith in your capabilities. Trust that the education and experiences you accumulate are building blocks for your success. Also, learn to trust others who have your best interests at heart, as collaboration and support are invaluable.
The relationships I’ve nurtured over the years, both personal and professional, have been instrumental in my development and achievements. These relationships have provided support, insight, and opportunities that I could not have accessed alone. For newcomers in any field, I recommend investing time and energy in building strong, authentic relationships. Be generous in your interactions and seek to add value to others’ lives. This reciprocity builds a network of support that can propel you forward in unexpected and rewarding ways.
My vision for the future has been a guiding light in my journey – my north star – acting as a spiritual compass that aligns not only with what I want to achieve but also with the deeper purpose of my actions. This vision is about understanding my role in a larger context—how my contributions can ripple outwards to affect my community and beyond. For those just beginning their careers, I encourage you to spend time reflecting on what truly matters to you. What are the values and impacts that resonate deeply with your spirit? How can you align your career with these larger, existential goals? Cultivate a vision that encompasses not just career milestones but also the legacy you want to leave behind. This broader, more profound understanding of your path will motivate you during challenging times and inspire you to push the boundaries of what you believe is possible.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
The most pivotal figure in helping me navigate challenges and cultivate the essential qualities for my success has been my son, Max, who is not only my pride and joy but also my best friend. As a single mother and entrepreneur, integrating Max into the fabric of my professional life from a young age was both a necessity and a deeply rewarding decision. Raising him in the bustling environment of my law firm, he accompanied me to meetings, court sessions, and events, absorbing the dynamics of legal and business interactions firsthand.
Providing Max with a ‘village’ of mentors—from colleagues and clients to family friends—enriched his upbringing with a diverse spectrum of perspectives and wisdom. This community not only contributed to his well-rounded development but also reinforced my own learning and growth. The experiences we shared, the challenges we navigated together, and the unconditional support we offered each other were instrumental in refining my abilities to trust, build core relationships, and envision a future filled with purpose and impact.
Through Max, I learned the profound impact of empathy, resilience, and adaptability—not just as abstract virtues but as practical daily practices. His insights and feedback have often offered me fresh perspectives and have grounded my decisions in deeper considerations of impact and legacy.
In essence, Max’s journey alongside my own has not only been a source of immense personal joy but also a continual catalyst for my professional evolution. The qualities that define my success today—trust, strong relationships, and a visionary outlook—are mirrored in the relationship I share with him. His growth into a thoughtful, engaged young adult reassures me that these qualities will continue to guide both of our futures.
