We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rebecca Davis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rebecca below.
Rebecca , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
As a child, I always knew I wanted to be a successful entrepreneur. I wanted to be able to give back. As I got older, I knew that would only happen with hard work. I have worked since I was 15 years old. When I started my businesses, I ran them and worked a full-time job. I was always told as a child, if you want to have anything, you have to work for it and that is what I live by. Nothing has ever been handed to me, I have worked for every single thing that I have.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I did not come from money. My work ethic came into place because my goal has always been to make it big and change the world. Help people come out of poverty, help people with no education, help people gain employment and so much more. My mind has always moved 1000 miles per minute, meaning I have always had huge dreams. Sometimes I get a little discouraged, I feel like now that I am older, I should be way further in life and business than I am. I know it is the trick of the devil. However, it still lights a fire under me, because, I am not getting any younger, if I am going to change the world, I need to get on it NOW. I started Bossd Up FashionZ Clothing Boutique almost 4 years ago. My why for starting it was initially to fund my Nonprofit, “The TaxPantry” it was one of the hardest things that I have done. I am comparing it to when I started my Tax Business “TaxTyme Express Tax & Business Services” that business was not as hard. The boutique was a huge challenge for me. There are still times that I just want to throw in the towel, but quitting has never been my forte. Things get slow at the boutique there are months where sales are scarce but I keep going and I keep pushing. I know that there are young little girls watching and I want them to know they too can do it also if they put their minds to it. I have a hard time competing with some of the other clothing stores that can sell their items for $1 each. I continue to push through. We are excited that because of our website ( www.bossdupfashionz.com) we are able to market our items all over the world and that is exciting.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back I would say the three qualities that were impactful in my journey were resilience, perseverance and hard work. Starting a business is so hard. For those that are starting their businesses, please know that it is not going to be easy, there are going to be days that you do not make any money. There are going to be days that you want the throw in the towel, when that happens do me one favor, remember what your WHY is and keep pushing. Do it tired, Do it broke, Do it without any support, but DO IT and do not give up.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
As a boutique owner, I am always looking to collaborate with Brand ambassadors with a huge following that will put my boutique in front of more people. If there is anyone that would like to collaborate, I can be reached at rebecca@bossdupfashionz.com. We are also looking for models to pose in the clothing for the website for free clothing.
