We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rebecca Elder a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rebecca, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I truly believe I had the greatest role model when it comes to resilience, and so much more, in my mother. She has never allowed adversity to stand in her way. No challenge could stop her from chasing her goals, providing for her family, or daring to dream bigger. Through her example, she taught me to move forward no matter the obstacle and instilled in me the courage to pursue my own path. Every dream I wanted to chase, she nurtured. Every ambition, she encouraged. Her strength not only carried our family but also shaped the way I see the world and what I believe is possible.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I like to call myself a Creative. I’ve always had an innate need to bring ideas to life, whether through art, photography, or writing: any medium that allows me to share the way I see the world.
Photography has been a passion of mine for nearly twenty years, a way to capture special moments and preserve them as something timeless.
But my most recent creative journey has been stepping into the world of publishing. On July 19th, I released my debut romance novel, Heartbeats. This story is incredibly close to my heart. While it lives within the fiction genre, I wove pieces of my own life: friendship, family, as well as love into its pages, making it a deeply personal creation.
I strive to write stories that are emotionally immersive. While romance lies at their core, they also explore themes of grief, healing, and resilience. My hope is that readers not only fall in love with the characters but also feel every beat of their journey, to laugh, to cry, to blush, and to connect with the full spectrum of human emotion.
I’m currently working on my second novel, which I’m excited to share in spring 2026.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three things that have guided me on my journey are my love for connection, my dreamer’s mind, and my relentless drive.
I’ve always been someone who craves connection, whether it’s with people, with stories, or by bringing like-minded souls together. That sense of belonging and shared experience is something I carry into everything I create.
Since the day I was born, I’ve been a dreamer. My imagination has always been vivid and alive, often sparking inspiration at the most unexpected times. It’s this boundless creativity that fuels my art, my photography, and my writing.
And finally, there’s my drive. I’ve never been able to sit still when there’s something meaningful I could be working toward—something that might help someone, provide for my family, or bring a little more joy into the world. That determination has kept me moving forward, even when the path has been difficult, and it continues to push me toward each new goal.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am always looking for collaboration opportunities and love being connected with other creatives! I like the idea of partnering with smaller bookstores (mobile or indie bookstores) to stock my book or to do events with.
I love chatting about my author journey, my books, or just books in general so I’m always looking for interview or podcast opportunities as well.
