We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rebecca Heidt. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rebecca below.
Rebecca, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
When I was a child I used to be so shy and afraid to have people look or talk to me. Once in elementary I had an appointment with someone to help with my reading and I was stuck at the door handle in fear. Between my family, especially my grandmother Adele Rosenthal, coached me to have more confidence and live the life only I can for myself. It takes a lot of self talks. There are disappointments in others and myself still to this day. Just like moods in a day, confidence and self-esteem have bad days too. It’s learning to navigate out of them that adulthood has taught me. Everything is light and dark for a reason.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I come from a background of restaurant work making my way to a District Manager. I always had one food in the business world and day dreaming about being an artist. I’ve always been a fan of nature, mythology, writing, art, history, and reading. I grew up with Xena, Buffy, and Charmed. In 2020, I jumped more into the art side by making and selling acrylic art and starting my LGBTQ Fantasy book series “Acceptance”. Since then I’ve managed to self-publish three books in the series, ‘The Beginning’, ‘The Reality’, and ‘Reborn’. The fourth and last book ‘Reconcile’ is in the making. As of today, the book series has won ten awards, accompanied with me being a guest on many podcast interviews, and featured in magazines. The newest project I’m proudest of is working with Marco Robinson, Undisputed Films, Hexagon Films, and Jen X Productions to turn my series into a five film saga that I’ll be writing, co-directing, and producing. Starting with “Secrets of the Warrior” (websit: rebeccaheidt.com) is going to be a LGBTQ Fantasy feature film using Bulgaria as a back drop and filled with multi cultural cast and musicians. If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. If a situation sounds really perfect to what you’re looking for but something in you is saying ‘not yet’ or ‘this isn’t the right option for me’ it’s usually your intuition telling you to think before jumping. I’ve made plenty of missteps thinking everything and everyone has the best intentions for me and my project. I’d love for that to be true, but taking a moment to assess people’s motives behind the pretty words is imperative. Sometimes we need to grow a bit more to meet the good opportunities at their level.
2. Self-motivation and accountability. There’s a fine line between confidence, ego, and assertiveness. Personally, my confidence comes from researching a topic on multiple platforms and understanding it in and out. Ego is me thinking I know everything about a topic that I’ve barely researched and shutting down others who have the experience to share because I don’t think I need to hear them. Assertiveness is having a balance of accepting ideas from others to grow a project and clearly stating what you don’t want in your project regardless of the ideas keeping true to the story. Self-motivation to always be mindful of these lines and when I make a mistake realize it’s only my fault because I went to far in one area.
3. Trust the process. If you’re doing a project for the right reasons and are authentic to yourself, other people can help you be successful. It’s partly doing things myself and asking for help from others. People who honestly want to help will find their way to you, keep an open heart.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
I take deep breaths. A lot of them. I step away from what I’m doing. Depending on what the situation is I’ll take a walk, be in nature, listen to music. The most important thing for me is letting out some of the energy and clear my mind. After that, making a list of priority items and asking myself if I think something is a priority because I’m being impatient or there’s an actual deadline. We can be our worst critic and barrier. Recognizing when you’re in it is one of the hardest things to do next to getting out of it. Feeling overwhelmed is a self care moment, please don’t ignore it.
