We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rebecca Mansueto a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rebecca, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I wouldn’t say it’s developed but more so developing because I believe it is an ongoing process especially when you are seeking to continually grow as an individual and that means facing new challenges! I develop my confidence and self esteem by simply trying. When you try something new it’s unfamiliar and you will most likely make mistakes however when you do it a second time and so on, you learn from your mistakes and build competence which in turn builds confidence. Most people believe you need confidence in order to take action when it is actually the other way around!
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Rebecca Mansueto and I am a professional dancer from Sydney, Australia. I am currently focused on my dance career which has always been my north star. Despite delving into other areas including acting, singing and modeling, I have always felt a profound connection with dance and I am very fortunate to have created a career from it spanning across the United States, Europe and Australia. Some of my highlights include playing Cha Cha for the David Ian Production of GREASE for award winning cruise line Royal Caribbean, working with award winning choreographers/directors Jean Claude Thibaut (Louis Vuitton), Patrick Boyd and Michael Rooney. World renowned companies I have worked for include Universal Studios Hollywood, Aqualillies and LA Kiss. Currently dancing for Australian professional rugby league football team Penrith Panthers and ICrave Entertainment Sydney. I feel with dance, what you put in is what you get out and in my opinion it is the most passionate and humble art medium.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I’d like to say four as I can’t narrow it down to three – Tenacity, focus, courage and hard work were the most impactful qualities and skills in regards to my journey and still are! My advice to those who are early in their journey of developing these skills is patience. The old saying that success doesn’t happen over night is very true, it is the amalgamation of work and effort over time, this is the tenacity, focus and hard work I previously referred to. There will be challenges and bumps along the road which you can always work through. In regards to courage, it is the willingness to try. Mistakes will be made, know your north star and keep going.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was work tirelessly to enroll me in the historically elite performing arts school BRENT STREET Sydney. At one point in time my mother worked three jobs so I could continue my classes at the renowned Australian performing arts school and would invest in several hours of travel to get me there. I know I wouldn’t be where I am without that opportunity and I am forever grateful.
