We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rebecca Puzo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rebecca, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
That’s such a great question and to be honest, I’m still overcoming it. Even being nominated for this opportunity triggered that faint, familiar voice that whispered, “You’re not qualified.” Logically, I know I am. But as someone without a formal degree and who’s just starting out on my mindset coaching journey, I’m a bit of a “late bloomer” in the game. So naturally that doubt still tries to creep in.
What I’ve learned, though, is that everyone’s path unfolds differently. We’re all on our own timeline. For me, there were lessons I needed to live, challenges I had to move through, and my own mental health journey to face before stepping into this chapter. Those lived experiences, the fact that I can truly say healing and growth are possible, those are what qualify me.
Imposter syndrome, to me, is really just the ego trying to keep us safe. It tells stories to keep us within whatever our comfort zone is. Instead of fighting those stories, I’ve learned to become grateful for them. They give us the chance to pause, acknowledge, and challenge their validity.
Through repeated action and self-love, I’ve developed a simple process:
I ask myself if a story comes from my ego, old conditioning, or genuine intuition. If the source isn’t credible, then the thought isn’t either. I then choose to release it and rewrite the narrative.
A great example of this was when I was offered a role in the upcoming series The Giant. It will be my first on-screen experience, and naturally, the imposter in me tried to talk me out of it. You know that voice, listing every reason you’re not ready or good enough. Instead of giving in, I revolted; with gratitude, I accepted the opportunity.
Had I listened to that inner imposter, I would’ve missed out on not only an incredible experience but also the powerful mindset shift that came with it. Each time I face those fears and act anyway, I build resilience — stacking small wins that quietly rewire how I see myself.
Over time, that’s how we loosen the grip of the imposter: through awareness, compassion, and aligned action. The more we trust ourselves and the more we live in truth we can finally begin to release it and step fully into who we’re meant to be.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Today, I feel fully present in the shift toward beautiful new beginnings. I am currently in the midst of building my coaching program, and it truly feels like everything in my life has aligned to bring me here. My life today looks completely different than it ever has before, and I believe I owe that to the healing journey I’ve been on since 2007.
Back then, I was clinically depressed, living with severe PTSD, cycling through medications, meltdowns, and self-sabotaging behaviors. I felt trapped in my own mind. I had spent almost my whole life in this space. Through deep healing, spirituality, and mindset work, I’ve gone from barely surviving to thriving. I’m now completely off medication, exercising daily, meditate, found my way back to journaling/writing, being creative and am intentional about what I feed my body and my soul.
In 2007, I had my son, and that marked the beginning of my healing journey. I wanted to do better for him than I had for myself. To give him the love, presence, and guidance he deserved from the best version of me. I had to decide to give up a lifestyle that allowed me to hide from not only pain but who I thought I was. It wasn’t easy; healing is never linear. I was navigating being a first-time mom while also learning how to discover whom I truly am inside and who I wanted to be. Me without the substances, me without the inconsistent therapy or laundry list of interchangeable medications, me without the meltdowns and victim mindset. I attribute all my will to the boy who calls me mom, he gave me purpose and hope and light in life when it seemed there was none left. So, I vowed, no matter how many tries it takes, I will make the shift. And I did, many of them leading up to this moment.
In 2018, I began TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) therapy, which marked the start of reclaiming my life. I was able to remove medications and integrate mindset work in a way I never could before. TMS is a non-invasive treatment that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain, helping with depression, OCD, addictive behaviors, focus, brain fog, and mental clarity. For me, TMS was transformative. It gave me the clarity and energy to finally take control of my healing journey, rebuild my mindset, and step fully into the life I was meant to live.
I experienced a large shift 2022 and in 2023 another and in 2024. Each shift leading me closer to completing cycles and reclaiming my life. Each shift leading me into more research and more practice. Validating that mindset redirection, love and repetition will also rewire the neurons of the brain. Today, I get to be the voice i thought I once lost, striving to help others reclaim their own.
One of the most meaningful opportunities I’ve had recently is being invited to share my story at an event hosted by ExoMind and Dr Hong at Dr Hong med spa. Sharing my story around TMS, ExoMind Therapy, life before and after clinical depression and mindset shifts. Dr. Hong is so warm hearted and cares deeply about the wellness of others. To be invited to speak and give back in this way feels like such an honor. Truly a full-circle moment. If my words can give even one person hope that what feels “impossible” can be overcome, then I’ve served my purpose.
Mindset work has become one of the most powerful tools in my life — not only for healing mental health and nurturing spirituality, but also for self-acceptance and compassion for others. It brings me pride to show others that you can go from feeling voiceless to empowering others with your voice.
Another exciting part of this new chapter is stepping into my creativity again. I’ll be playing Sally in the upcoming TV series “The Giant” directed by Kevin B. Ploth. This project is special to me because as a kid I lived for creating, making home movies, commercials, and dressing up in costumes. Acting in The Giant reignites that spark in me, the part that always wanted to express and create.
The show itself has such heart — a gritty drama that follows Sheriff Clay Walker (“The Giant”) as he fights corruption, rising crime, and his own inner demons. The team is a powerhouse of veterans, first responders, and industry professionals who bring real-life experience and authenticity to the story. My character, Sally, is fit, flirty, and full of warmth — her chemistry with Deputy Jones adds both depth and heart to the series.
Every opportunity that’s come my way, whether coaching, speaking, or acting has been a reflection of my healing. Each one reminds me how powerful transformation can be when we decide to believe in ourselves and trust the journey.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, I’d say three qualities have been most impactful in my journey: resilience, self-awareness, and courage to take action.
Resilience has been essential because healing isn’t linear. From healing childhood wounds, navigating PTSD, depression, and self-sabotaging patterns. I learned that growth isn’t about never falling, it’s about showing up for yourself again and again. And most importantly, it’s about showing up with a kindness and gentleness toward yourself as you navigate the journey of healing.
Self-awareness has helped me recognize the difference between fear-based thoughts and my authentic intuition. Practices like journaling, mindset work, and spiritual growth allowed me to see the stories my ego tells to “keep me safe” and consciously decide which beliefs to keep or release.
Courage to take action has transformed my life. Saying yes to opportunities that felt uncomfortable, whether speaking about ExoMind therapy or stepping into my first on-screen acting role in The Giant, have allowed me to expand beyond my comfort zone and build confidence in who I’m becoming. Saying yes to opportunities that feel align with my values, goals and purpose have allowed me to embody a new trust within myself and take control back of my life.
For anyone early in their journey, my advice is simple: celebrate small wins, cultivate awareness of your patterns, and take bold action despite fear. The combination of reflection and action creates real transformation. Healing asks for patience, compassion, and persistence. When you combine these with action and treat yourself with love along the way, transformation becomes inevitable, and easier over time. The subconscious begins to rewire itself & the narrative begins to change even without you having to redirect it.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes, I’m definitely open to collaborating. I’m looking to connect with individuals and organizations who share a genuine passion for mindset work, mental health awareness, and empowerment. I’d love to collaborate with people who believe in giving the underdog a voice and helping others break free from the stories that keep them stuck.
Ultimately, my ideal clients those who are ready to stop listening to the outside noise and start betting on themselves. The dreamers, healers, and changemakers who want to take real action toward creating lasting transformation. Those who are ready to drop the ego, rewrite their narrative, and fully step into the life they were meant to live.
Anyone who feels aligned with this work can connect with me through my Instagram or email. I’m always open to genuine conversation, collaboration, and shared purpose.
