Meet Rebecca Rivera

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rebecca Rivera a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Rebecca , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

My purpose has always followed along the lines of helping people, whether it be from the career Ive been in over a decade in the beauty industry or where I am transcending things now to pursue my career as a Realtor. My passion has always stayed the same in helping people achieve their goals, make them feel good, or help them. I enjoy having a career I know is built on other peoples happiness not just my own.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Who is Rebecca Rivera?
I have built my career and life on foundation blocks that are centered around not only building name for myself but an inspiration for people like me. I was born into a poverty lifestyle and raised by a drug addicted mother and incarcerated father. I was homeless for several years as a child and lived from park benches to shelters and at times ate vegetables out a can for food or stole to eat, this was my life before I had even started elementary school. Growing up was a challenging time, but I knew that I was meant for more in life than my surroundings, and that one day I dreamt of being in a position to be the people who helped along the way.
I annually host donation drives primarily geared towards women and children since ive started my own business about 10 years ago, I eventually intent to do this on a much bigger scale. Ive lived on my own provided for myself since I was 16 years old and its the fuel that drives me to be successful in life and in my career knowing where I came from, what “I was suppose to end up like” and who I strive to become.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

BE YOURSELF is so huge for me, Ive trained with one person or another and the expectation was sometimes “Do it this way, my way is right” but the right way is your way and what feels comfortable for you and your journey. People want to feel comfortable talking to someone. You know what it feels like when someone isn’t genuinely being themselves. In Real Estate I learned very early your clients being able to trust you is the most important part of whether they want to work with you or not. Most of the time you’re dealing with the largest transaction someone will ever encounter, you need to have a relationship that feels open, natural, and comfortable.
Be yourself. Be genuine, and stay true to your character! Sometimes it looks like things are taking longer but have faith that your journey is your own and things will happen for you when they are suppose to.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

I think this is such an important question because I do feel mental health isn’t talked about enough. Life is hard, and then a select few of us want to go off and become entrepreneurs on top of it. When you’re running your own business and your income solely depends on you it can be very terrifying and overwhelming. What if I fall? What if people don’t like me?
What if next month I don’t make enough money to pay my bills? These are real life scenarios that even still being self employed for a decade play out from time to time in my head. Find what grounds you! For me personally, my faith keeps me pushing forward knowing what I came from and how I am already living in the times I’ve prayed for now and haven’t gotten anywhere near what my goals are for myself. I am also a HUGE mental health advocate, Therapy is so important to me. We lean on the people around us so heavy for support “I don’t need a therapist, I have friends, family, a spouse” but what happens when your burden becomes too heavy for them? Or if other people can’t see how big youre dreams are? Do you fit into someone else’s box or do you create a space to self help and not depend on your surroundings?
