We recently connected with Rebecca Rumsey and have shared our conversation below.
Rebecca, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
As a little girl, I always wished I could be someone else. I wanted dark brown hair instead of red, brown eyes instead of blue, darker skin instead of fair. I dreamed of living in a big city instead of my medium-sized hometown and longed for a little sister, even though I was the youngest in a family full of brothers. I spent years trying to change my reality, campaigning for my mom to have another child and move us to New York or LA, begging to dye my hair, even researching boarding schools in big cities by poring over books at the library (long before the internet made it easy).
That longing followed me all the way through high school. But when I reached college, something shifted. I made a conscious decision to stop yearning for a version of myself that I could never be. I began to rewrite the tapes in my head, replacing every negative thought with a positive one. I covered my walls with sticky notes reminding me that I was enough, that I was worthy, that I was exactly who I was meant to be.
And over time, it worked. Slowly, I learned to respect and love the person I was while honoring the woman I was capable of becoming. The choice to embrace rather than resist myself became the foundation of my confidence, and it’s what continues to guide me today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a fertility coach and nutritionist who helps women over 40 optimize their fertility naturally so they can bring home their babies. My work is especially meaningful to me because I conceived both of my children naturally at 43 and 46, after being told I was in early menopause and wouldn’t be able to have children without donor eggs. That experience, combined with over 25 years in health and wellness, inspired me to create my program Fertile After 40.
What feels most exciting to me is being able to give women hope at a stage of life when society often tells us it’s “too late.” I combine the latest science with a holistic approach, evaluating nutrition, hormones, microbiomes, thyroid and adrenal health, blood sugar, inflammation, environment, mindset, partner health, and more to uncover hidden challenges and create personalized fertility plans. I also provide a private community where women have support every step of the way, because fertility isn’t just physical, it’s deeply emotional.
Right now, I’m focused on growing Fertile After 40 and recently launched the Fertile After 40 Masterclass, which guides women through the essential steps to enhance their fertility. For women who want deeper support, I also work one-on-one, serving as their personal fertility detective to uncover root causes and guide them every step of the way. I’ve also released a new recipe book, Fueling Fertility: Fertility-Boosting Recipes, designed to make nourishing meals simple and enjoyable. My mission is to change the narrative around fertility after 40 and show women that their dream of becoming a mother is still possible.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three qualities that were most impactful in my journey were relentlessness, a deep core belief in myself, and a lifelong obsession with health.
Relentlessness: I refused to give up, no matter how many obstacles appeared. I reviewed thousands of studies, experimented with strategies, and did whatever it took to accomplish my goal. My advice for anyone starting out is to commit to learning and taking consistent action. When motivation feels low, focus on one small action you can take right now. Any forward movement, no matter how small, builds momentum and keeps you moving toward your goal.
Deep core belief in myself: There will always be moments of fear and doubt, but my belief in what is possible is louder than the voices of fear. For those early in their journey, it’s essential to actively change the tapes in your head. Every time a negative thought arises, replace it with something positive about yourself or your actions. When life feels discouraging, practice gratitude. Even thinking of just five things you’re grateful for can dramatically shift your mindset.
Lifelong obsession with health: Since I was very young, I’ve been fascinated by nutrition, wellness, and understanding the body. This allowed me to synthesize decades of knowledge to uncover what truly works to overcome health challenges. My advice: stay curious, explore all facets of health (hormones, metabolism, digestion, mindset, lifestyle, and more) and connect the dots. When you see the bigger picture, you can create strategies that are uniquely powerful for your body and your goals.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My typical clients (and also my ideal clients) are women who are already high achievers in many areas of their lives. They bring that same drive and determination to their fertility journey, following the steps and lifestyle changes needed to optimize their chances of conceiving later in life. I’m especially grateful for these clients, because achieving pregnancy over 40 often requires significant adjustments, and it generally takes focus, motivation, and persistence to reach the goal of bringing home a baby.
