We were lucky to catch up with Rebecca Savage recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rebecca, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
Finding fun, bold and local designers for my fabric choices.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I work full-time and work on (Squirrel) when I get home from work. I have a small dog that is named Happie. She is a Pomeranian-mini Aussie. When I’m not playing with her or making orders, I’m do events local. Like BarK, Dogtober Fest and etc. this year, I’ve been blessed with five wholesale orders this year. You can find my items in Made In KC stores, Painted Tree stores, Pet Supplies store and local website groups. Hope to be in more local stores to support local businesses.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The ability to sew and measure is the main thing you need to know with my skill. I wish they taught that in school still. If you’re needing to learn more on the skill you’re working on don’t be afraid to ask questions, watch a video or take classes. I’ve worked in the sewing industry for many years. From high school-alterations-home decor-baseball hats-dog collars.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Reaching out to future clients and keep looking forward to the next challenge to keep me going to be better at what I do.
