Meet Rebekah Teo

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rebekah Teo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Rebekah, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
Creativity for me is essential to my life purpose and reason for existing. God has given me a deep passion for creating beauty, and in so doing, expressing myself and building a strong foundation of relationship with him and other people. I often struggle with gaps of creativity within my daily life; the demands of the worldly grind can assume dominance over my perspective, and suddenly I can sense myself falling in to a cycle of survival and hustle.
What keeps my creativity alive is consistently acknowledging Gods own creativity- how he paints the sky, how he designs a bird or a flower, how he thought to put music in the hearts of children… when I meditate on his creative genius, and then reflect on the way he made me in his likeness, I have to express my gratitude and joy in some manner- pen and ink, paint, cake decorating, etc.
It’s both a product of our relationship as well as a practice to grow closer. Often when I feel distant from him I can write poetry and find myself drawing closer to his loving heart.
God is both the source and fuel for my creative fire.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a self taught baker, honing my craft in my home kitchen, over the course of the last 4 years. I started Bethlehem Baking Co as a means to provide extra income for my family as a stay-at-home mom When my husband quit his well-paying job in January of 2022, we went all in on building it into a family business, with the hopes of opening a brick and mortar someday. Our passion is not only for quality, delicious food, but for community as well. We desire to draw people together to connect and grow as we support one another’s dreams and goals. We aim to reimagine what corporate business can be like in our great country.
We have a member subscription program that does quite well, as we provide 12 monthly specials to our members during the course of their subscription.
We are providing high quality wedding and event cakes to all sorts of San Diegans! We are so grateful to be a part of making such momentous occasions special and memorable.
We serve lots of church communities, providing wholesale baked goods to their cafes, as well as supplying treats for their events.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Excellent customer service Communication
Love

These skillsets are indispensable to running a business that relies upon repeat customers and word-of-mouth support and marketing.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
We have a vision for growing our business to reach more people, and to root deeply in our community by way of a brick and mortar location. We feel that the main way to accomplish this is by the connections we make with people who believe in us and in our mission and purpose.
People who love God, and are looking to provide people with quality baked goods and other food items, as well as bless the community that we are a part of, are the people who we would love to collaborate with. We need the body of Christ active, healthfully cohesive and in communication to be able to advance the Kingdom of God, bringing his love to the people.
