Meet Reena Tolentino

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Reena Tolentino a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Reena , thrilled to have you on the platform as I think our readers can really benefit from your insights and experiences. In particular, we’d love to hear about how you think about burnout, avoiding or overcoming burnout, etc.
I When I sense a loss of balance or burnout creeping in, I instinctively retreat into a hermit mode, placing introspection above social interactions. It involves challenging my ego, being comfortable with missing certain events. I seek solace in solitude, dedicating time to watching movies and immersing myself in art. Selectively welcoming collectors into my studio becomes a means to protect my energy. Establishing boundaries in workspaces and curbing exposure to others preserves the vital energy I need for ongoing learning, extending beyond the realm of painting. This intentional strategy allows me to recharge and stay dedicated to both personal and professional growth.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Traveling through Asia and Europe, I’ve collected an array of experiences which leads me to today, I have an affinity in creating immersive experiences that blend digital art, music, and exquisite dining. I’ve found a great way to collaborate with brands to enhance their identity through unique partnerships. Currently, I’m in my creative zone at the Pas+ Fig’s artist residency program, where I’ve also taken on the role as one of the managing partners, reconnecting with my childhood community! Exciting plans are underway to broaden experiences for kids, non-profits, culinary art dinners, gallery shows, holistic healing, gardening, live show experiences and filming. Our aim is to cultivate a sense of connection and purpose within the community, nurturing the next generation of innovators and like minded entrepreneurs.

On a fashion front, I’m thrilled about my “wearable art” line, where I’m repurposing jeans into skirts, and also will have clothes that I’ve painted in as part of the line. Thanks to the support of my team at Big V Contractor and Studio 1144 for this special project. Their confidence and trust in my vision proved worthwhile as the samples evolved, showcasing the value of a team open to unconventional ideas. I will release this line in the Summer of 2024!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The pivotal factors shaping my journey can be distilled into three essential elements. Firstly, voracious reading, particularly outside my artistic niche, has been instrumental in instilling confidence in my business acumen. The exploration of diverse knowledge domains has prompted self-reflection and a broader perspective.

Secondly, collaboration has proven paramount. Engaging with individuals I admire has contributed significantly to the creation of a purposeful balance between work and leisure. The collaborative endeavors not only enhance my professional endeavors but also enrich my personal fulfillment.

Lastly, recognizing my capacity to add value to others’ lives has been transformative. This realization has become a guiding principle, shaping my approach to both business and personal interactions. Understanding the impact of my contributions adds depth and meaning to the pursuit of a purposeful and fulfilling life.

How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal clientele aligns with entrepreneurs, including venture capitalists and individuals in hedge funds seeking to expand their financial portfolios with tangible assets, such as collecting art as a tangible asset. Aspiring to establish myself as a blue-chip artist, I recognize the importance of collaboration in achieving this goal. I envision an ideal client base that values loyalty, seeks my expertise in art and design, and actively refers me to their network, fostering a mutually beneficial relationship. Respectful engagement is a cornerstone of this vision, contributing to the elevation of the value of their art investments and cultivating a positive and enduring partnership.
