We recently connected with Regina Faison and have shared our conversation below.
Regina, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
That is a great and powerful question! To be honest, I used to think my purpose on this earth was to be a mother, wife, advisor, daughter, sister, and friend, but that all changed when I experienced the loss of my spouse unexpectedly at a young age, leaving me to raise two young sons as a single widowed mother. God truly had other plans for me, and I give him all the glory for bringing me out of that darkness (from such massive grief) and into His marvelous light! I now use my personal experience, loss and struggles from my own past to help others who are going through life’s unexpected seasons – as we all go through some type of life-changing event every 5 years – whether it be loss of a spouse, marriage, divorce, a new baby, job, financial loss, unplanned move, etc. No matter what changes life throws at you that can take you off your path, plan, and purpose that the Lord has for you, trusting in His ways and not your own ways, will lead you to your purpose and destiny on this earth. I thank God for helping me turn my life around, and now I am here to walk alongside others and help them “Manage the Financial Seasons Of their Lives” in peace and with purpose!
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I love what I do as I truly enjoy helping people become their own advocate and produce a strategy and solution to life’s unexpected events. I have personal experience in loss and truly having to lean not on my own understanding, but I learned to trust the Lord in every step of my rebuilding stage and in raising my sons, so it has been a journey for me and my sons, but by the grace of God we have made it through! I focus on “planning” with my clients to make sure they are protected and prepared for life’s unexpected events that can leave them in a financial crisis. On the personal and community side, after experiencing my family’s loss, my sons and I created a foundation focused on reducing the number of lives lost by SCA (Sudden Cardiac Arrest) and heart disease, as heart disease (CVD) is currently the leading cause of death globally, taking an estimated 17.9 million lives each year. SCA is the leading cause of death in the United States. My sons are planning a special golf tournament this summer (July 17th) to help raise awareness and funds to place AED’s (life-saving devices) in communities as well as help support annual heart screenings to encourage families to get their hearts checked annually. We also want to ensure that everyone knows CPR and is equipped in knowing how to save a life in the event of a SCA, as they currently occur every 2-3 days and unfortunately, the survival rates are extremely low because they happen so sudden, and without warning, which results in the victims not making it to the hospital in time. Hearts Saved by Grace Foundation (formerly named the Derrick Faison Foundation) is here to encourage, educate and support families who have suffered a loss to SCA and heart disease. We also want to celebrate those who have experienced being saved by grace!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
#1 The Lord’s wisdom, knowledge, and guidance, as I can do nothing without Him – all my strength comes from Him (Philippians 4:13). All the gifts and skills that I have are all from Him, so all glory goes to the Lord, I am merely a vessel here and my job is to steward the gifts that He gave me, and I try to help others in the process as much as possible. The best advice I can give others is the same I gave my sons – keep God first, remain humble, and remember that dreams are worthy accomplishments, but you must stay awake to achieve them. “Awake” is the key! Not everyone truly understands this meaning (“being awake”). We are all created to use our gifts to walk in our purpose as the gifts are not actually for us, but in truth, they are for others in need. So, it is important to stay humble and know where all your help truly comes from. We can do nothing in our own strength, but so many think that they achieve success on their own. That is called pride, and that is an extremely dangerous place to be walking in, and it will be hard for you to grow and be successful if you are full of pride. Remain humble and then you will be able to grow successfully. We all need to learn to follow before we can lead or truly help anyone.
Okay, so before we go, we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I love working and collaborating with CPAs and attorneys and realtors, I know that last one may be a surprise as normally in my field we partner and work a great deal with CPA’s and attorneys, which is important in my business as I feel you have to be on the same side of the table of your clients CPA’s and attorneys because we are all working in the best interest of the same client – at least that is how it is supposed to be. I have found that realtors have been playing an important role as buying or selling a home or rental property is important and a part of building wealth, so I like to meet more experienced realtors that are more in a “relationship role” with their clients and not just trying to sell or buy them a property and then go on to the next, but actually taking the time to educate and stay ahead of the changes in the real estate market. Real Estate can greatly impact a clients future retirement plan and knowing the full details of every buy and sale transaction and how it will impact the clients overall financial and retirement goals. I feel the role of the realtor these days has grown and there is true value in having a good realtor. I love working in unity with my client’s other professionals, as that is always the best for the client at the end of the day.
