Meet Reginald Massey

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Reginald Massey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Reginald with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Good evening, this is not the first time someone has ask me this question. So I ask them the question of what is work ethic? A work ethic is a personal set of values that determines how any employee approaches their work. So I’ve always treated a job as if it was my own. Asking many questions to understand more then just what my job description is, but why and how this position effects the whole business. My father once told me, that a man you know how, will always have a job, but a man who knows why, will always be their boss.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Well, I’m the owner and chef of Let It Marinate LLC. We are a catering company located in Atlanta, GA. We provide meal plans, personal chef, private chef, cooking classes and catering for all your special occasion. There is something about taking raw ingredients and marrying them together to make a plate of art. Our motto is “We Take The TIme”. Also for the past 3 years we have been working on perfecting our all purpose seasoning and jalapeno hot sauce, so be on the lookout for it.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
This has been an long journey and still so much more to travel. Listening is the first skill I’ve learn and one of the most important. Listening to the chef as a cook, the team as a leader, and the client as an owner. I had to learn to follow to learn how to lead. Second skill I learned was to steal with your eyes. One of my chef once told me that you will learned more by observing than him telling me. I have taken that advice to every job I’ve worked. Once you know the basics you can make it to your own style. Third, is have morals and a person of their word. And never let someone stray you from it. Your word is your bond.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents gave me values. To be honest, kind, and respectful to everyone. Treat people the way you want to be treated. Stand up for yourself and what you believe in. And always say what you mean and mean what you say. And I thank them for it.
