Meet Rekita Brown

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rekita Brown a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Rekita, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I’ve been organized since childhood. My room was always tidy, and everything had a place. Before launching my business in 2019, I worked as a preschool teacher, billed for emergency room physicians, filled the role of a billing manager, as well as other roles in the medical field. Although I loved all these jobs, I enjoyed implementing systems that made my day run smoothly and as productive as possible. After hearing from several people how organized I was, I started searching for organizing roles. This is how I stumbled upon the profession “Professional Organizer.” I never knew it was an actual career, but I learned very quickly. I researched, read books, and decided that I wanted to leave Corporate America and explore entrepreneurship. I immediately joined the American Society of Professional Organizers (ASPO), became a Certified Home Organizer (CHO), launched my business, Genuinely Organized, and began organizing full-time. Although it has not was easy, especially when the pandemic hit, I did not give up. During this down season, I used the time learning more about the business and became certified in Interior Design and Home Staging from QC Design School. My business has grown over the years, and I currently hold the title of President for ASPO.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three essential qualities would be my positive mindset, genuine personality, and the ability to strive to be the best I can be no matter what challenges come my way. Glasses are always half full, never half empty. My advice to others early in their journey would be to trust the process and always seek continuous improvement.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My parents have been my biggest supporters with every obstacle I have faced. My brother and mentor have guided me and given me valuable knowledge and essential skills to succeed.
