Meet REN

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful REN. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with REN below.

REN, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I believe confidence is something people have to always work on, because there’s times when you feel great and others where you don’t feel you’re best. Neither are necessarily wrong, we’re all human and a part of that is realizing these parts of life exist but growth is finding ways to get out of those tough situations! I also believe confidence and self esteem fully comes from knowing your purpose and what you are here for! This can only come from knowing Jesus and how much he loves and wants for us! In this day and age that feels lame or not on trend, but once you know him and are confident that he’s got you , you start to not care what others think! At the end of the day, I know my purpose is for him. Doesn’t make life any easier and obviously sometimes there’s moments of doubt and frustration, but once I focus is and I’m like “God you got Me” … it’s all straight ahead from there.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Heyyyy!!!

My names Serenity but I go by REN! I’m an 23 year old artist based out of Nashville, and I’ve been making music for most of my life. I’m a military child and grew up all over the US and outside the US!! Coming from a huge family, I’m one of Seven kids, the house was always loud and full of life! I wouldn’t change that for the world and I feel as if that lifestyle definitely inspired the kind of music I make! I’m mostly excited for new music and positivity!! I released a EP 2022, during a hard time, so my songs really showed that! On one hand I love the honesty of that project and I know a lot of listeners related which I’m so grateful for, but I’m ready to make things that empower and uplift people! I’ve been working on some fun stuff with my buddy Luke Saison who is a absolutely incredible!! It’s a very different mood change from “Sorry I Hesitated” but very much REN!! 2023 has definitely been a rest period to grow and find out who I am and the deeper “why” do I do it, so I’m extremely excited to come out of that hermit stage and get back to work ! I have a show in November planed for a small DIY fest called variety fest! I’m so excited and hopefully soon we can get more information about where that should take place in the next month !

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think having discernment, a love for what you do, and always wanting to improve are three qualities that were most impactful during my music journey. They’re definitely things I can also continue to grow in. With discernment, I feel like that’s a huge factor. Just knowing who is for you and who isn’t. It’s something I definitely can still grow in. Sometimes you have relationships with people in the industry that don’t go as well as planned and it sucks! But getting back up from those losses and guarding your heart to make sure you’re surrounded by people who TRULY want success for you. Many people can say they do but not actually mean it. Being able to discern whose staying with you for the long haul because they love and believe in you!!

Genuinely loving what I do definitely has kept me going. Even durning this hiatus and times where I feel like I should’ve gave up or quit. I literally just can’t. I love music so much. It’s the talent God gave me himself and I know because I care about music God cares about it for me as well, which makes me not want to ever give it up!! I feel like it’s what I was meant to do. If anyone has a feeling that strong about anything you should never give it up! It’s like falling in love, when you know you know !

There’s always room for improvement!! And remembering I can improve is a skill that will just make me better as I go! It’s very humbling, especially when you create something you genuinely think is the best work you’ve ever made, pushing yourself to make something better than that is always going to make what you’re doing even better! Especially when you’ve worked so hard to do so! Reaping the benefits from improving is always fun !

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Definitely my family and boyfriend! Always reminding me what I’m here for and encouraging me to do the right thing! Helping me with my faith and putting me back on track when I stir away from it. Even when I think my family is being hard on me I know it’s all love! My boyfriend is just thee best human ever, he’s so encouraging and is always front row to everything I do! He’s 100% about me and I couldn’t imagine a better partner and hype man at the same time! God really did his thing with him I can’t lie!
