Meet Renae Anderson

We were lucky to catch up with Renae Anderson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Renae, so great to have you with us today. There are so many topics we want to ask you about, but perhaps the one we can start with is burnout. How have you overcome or avoided burnout?
I think that in a society where we are constantly compared to other burnout is inevitable. I created and grew a successful real estate brokerage over the last 4 years. However, I found myself looking out at what others had accomplished in 10 even 15 years, and compared my 2-3 years experience to theirs. I quickly found my competitive nature threw me into a frenzy, and I quickly started to burn out. I love to teach and pride myself on my ability to patiently instruct and communicate effectively.

After 2 years of full speed ahead and 150% time and effort spent on my business everyday, I just lost the joy in it all. My career felt like a job or more accurately a chore. I attempted multiple ways to overcome what was clearly a complete burnout. But nothing was working… I felt more and more underwater every day.

Finally, after trying to make everyone happy and content, I chose me. It’s weird right… even just typing I choose me seems unsettling and selfish. But one thing I learned is that no matter how hard I try, what I do, or how successful I am, someone will not be happy. The only person I can control is me. So I chose me. I decided to take a step back, merge my brokerage with a company that could provide me leverage, and take back my time, energy and sanity.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am the founder of Sage Street Realty, now powered by Keller Williams Allen. We offer commercial and residential real estate services to our clients. Our specialty is in commercial investments. We find opportunities for our clients to invest in order to diversity current investment strategies to real assets that are income producing and provide cash flow yields year over year!

I am also starting Sage Street Property Management firm this year! We will do commercial retail, industrial, and office management as well as large scale (IE. over 8 units) residential management including multifamily. I am extremely excited to get this off the ground!

I think my favorite focus for 2023 will be a small scale syndication style investment strategy catering to middle income individuals. So those looking to start investing in real estate with a lower entry level financial commitment of anywhere between $10k and $50k. This is still in the works, but will be released in Q2 of 2023!!! So be on the lookout for this!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think that the number one most important quality to have when being a real estate professional is humility. I go into everyday thinking it is likely my clients are smarter than me, so I must over educate myself on a daily basis to understand markets, trends, analysis and business. Which leads me to the second most important quality is which is to always be learning! Lastly, I would say third being a skill, which is how to understand and analyze a deal that can add cash flowing assets to your clients portfolio.

Skills can be developed by practice. My best advice would be to get a mentor. Ask a senior agent to show you the ropes. It’s better to learn from someone doing the job than to try to teach yourself skills that you don’t already have. Also, be humble enough to know that there is always something you can learn!

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
YASSS! I think it is essential to business to connect with the right people. There are 3 types of partners I am looking for!

1. I like to partner with individuals who are looking for ways to diversify their already established or new portfolio and want to add real assets to the mix.

2. Realtors who would like a commercial agent to refer to, looking to switch brokerages, or want to learn commercial real estate.

3. Other professionals who are looking for referral partners!

Any of these people can contact me via email at [email protected], or the best way is to text me at 972-974-7419. And you can always check me out on my website sagestreetrealty.com or social media @sagestreetrealty
