We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rene Mejia a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Rene with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic stems from a deep desire to transcend my current self, to continually challenge and surpass my previous achievements, always aiming for a standard that borders on perfection. Through my years of experience, I’ve learned that the only path to progress is through unwavering dedication and persistent hard work. It’s a relentless pursuit, continually striving for excellence and refusing to settle for anything less. This ethos propels me forward, driving me towards my aspirations with an unyielding determination.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is René Mejia. I am an emerging fashion designer based in Miami, Florida, originally from El Salvador. Recently, I unveiled my Spring-Summer collection at Paris Fashion Week, marking the debut my handbags. The collection garnered exceptional reception and earned features in prestigious publications like Elle, Glamour, and Vogue Magazine. Soon, these exquisite bags will be available for order, alongside another distinctive product that will be available soon.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The skills that have propelled me to my current position are Discipline, Diligence, and Consistency. I firmly believe these qualities are essential to achieving success as they synergize and have significantly contributed to my brand’s development over the years. While it’s challenging to embody all these attributes simultaneously, it’s immensely beneficial to strive to integrate them into your daily life. At the end of the day only perfect practice makes perfect.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Coping with overwhelming situations is incredibly challenging. What I find helpful is taking a step back and focusing on what I can control. Sometimes, we believe we need mastery over everything, but it’s often best to let go and concentrate on what’s within our reach.
I recently had an experience a few months ago while creating the show for Paris Fashion Week. Directing and orchestrating everything from afar presented its difficulties, and it became even more emotionally and overwhelming when I learned of my grandmother’s passing as I was about to board my flight to Paris.
Despite the immense difficulty of deciding whether to proceed with the show upon learning of my grandmother’s passing, understanding that her loss couldn’t be remedied was crucial. Months of hard work had been invested in the show, making it impossible for me to cancel. I needed to continue. The entire collection was dedicated to her memory
