Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Renika McQueen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Renika, thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
My generosity comes from a space of not wanting others to feel how I’ve felt at times. I also remember just wishing I had someone in my corner so I try to be for people what it is that I needed and still need sometimes.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a writer, producer and with my latest project, I’ve become a director which was a huge goal for me. I create and produce relatable stories that I turn into movies. The most exciting thing about being a filmmaker is getting to hear people’s reactions to the films. It brings joy to my heart when I’m able to touch someone through my creativity. My movies are normally close to home for me with a small piece of my life or someone else’s close to me. Currently, I have 3 feature films and a series, all streaming on several different platforms including Prime Video and Tubi. Out of all of my movies, I’d say A Family Divided is my favorite. So many people reached out to me, expressing how it took them through so many emotions and that they loved the story. Im currently in post production for the second season of my series, The Stranger In Our House. You can watch season one on Tubi. Also, I’m in pre- production for my new mini web series, Jack Boyz. It will be available on YouTube once we complete it. I also write books so stay tuned for that.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities or skills that I think have been most impactful in my journey are patience, at the top of my list. It’s so easy getting caught up in your feelings about where you think you should be or what life should look like for you especially when seeing others accomplish so much. Consistency is so important. Constantly showing up for myself even on the days I’m mentally and emotionally exhausted and drained is the only way I’ve been able to be half way successful and accomplish some of my goals. Caring about my name and my brand will forever be important. The way you carry yourself and carry your business means everything. Sometimes your name will make it to rooms before you. Keep your name clean! My advice would be to keep your thoughts and comments to yourself if you don’t have anything nice to say about someone else that is trying. Gossip carries and spreads fast. Spread love, not hate. Pray and clap for others. Do the work even when it’s hard to.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Not currently but if I were, they’d have to do good business, be a honest and fair person. Provide professional services and have a passion for filmmaking. For collaborations they can email me at chaseandconner@gmail.com.
