Meet ReSheda D. Terry

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to ReSheda D. Terry. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

ReSheda, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Confidence, to me, is a lifelong journey. I can’t say that I see it as a place that’s developed, rather one that’s always developing. It’s something that requires practice, intention, and focus if you’re truly trying to strengthen it. The way confidence shows up in my life can shift depending on the season I’m in, but it is always evolving.

Of course, my faith, family, and friends provide a solid foundation, and I’m incredibly grateful for that. But ultimately, it’s our individual experiences that shape us. Whether those experiences are challenging or affirming, they teach me more about who I am. It’s then taking that understanding and transmuting it into action—the doing—that allows me to reinforce and build my confidence. The more I trust myself to navigate different situations, the more my sense of self and confidence grows.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I was born and raised in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and now live in Los Angeles as an actor and creative facilitator. I earned a B.S. in Biology from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where I was a STEM scholar. Growing up, the arts fueled my imagination and curiosity, but I never considered it as a career. Pursuing a traditional path was the expectation: go to school, get a degree, get a good job. While I loved science and had a passion for people, I eventually realized that pursuing a medical career wasn’t the right fit for me.

After graduation, I went through what I now see as a form of postgraduate depression. Though challenging, that period allowed me to spend valuable time with my grandmother, who was facing serious health challenges. Her peace about living a fulfilling, regret-free life became the turning point for me, guiding me to pursue my passion for acting. I moved to New York City to study at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, then continued my training at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, eventually relocating to Los Angeles to further my career.

Among other projects, I’m currently featured in Me Little Me, a film that premiered at SXSW in 2022 and is now available on platforms like Apple TV, Amazon Prime, and Google Play. The film won several awards, including Best Narrative Feature at the UrbanWorld Film Festival. I’m also part of Mr. Santa: A Christmas Extravaganza, which was released on December 6th. Additionally, I’ve recently closed two plays at a local resident theater.

Alongside acting, I’m passionate about helping other creatives connect more deeply to their self-expression. I’ve worked with artists at retreats, as well as with community organizations, high school students, and incarcerated youth. This work enriches my artistic journey and replenishes my creative well by allowing me to engage with diverse perspectives. It broadens my ability to reflect those experiences in my own work, which is ultimately our responsibility as actors—to explore and give life to the full spectrum of humanity.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Faith- there has to be something you believe in along this journey. That belief is what guides you, especially when things seem to be working against you. Even with the support of others, you’re the one who faces yourself in the mirror every day. So, whatever that belief is, it’s important to stay grounded in it.

Curiosity- about yourself and the world keeps you open and constantly evolving. It’s a key component of being an actor—you must always discover why. This curiosity deepens your connection to the craft, allowing you to explore new depths in your work.

Finally, diligence. You can’t achieve greatness without it. To me, diligence is about consistency, commitment, and perseverance—the steady work that keeps you moving forward, even when the path feels uncertain.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

One of my main areas of growth this year has been finding a sense of freedom in my journey. My acting career isn’t exactly where I want it to be yet, but it’s continually unfolding and that keeps me motivated. Nearly a year ago, I was questioning how to turn my art into a sustainable living, and now, I get to act, create, and collaborate every day. The audience may vary, but I’m able to explore, expand, and discover. I’m having fun doing it, and more importantly, I feel fulfilled and purposeful. I’m deeply rooted in God’s promise for me, and that realization is a gift.
