We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Reynaldo Moorer a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Reynaldo , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I am driven by my faith in God, and the fact that he gave me the internal qualities and characteristics to overcome adversity, which is inevitable. I come from a community that has a lack of everything. The cards were already stacked against me as a youth. Over the years, I’ve lost so many people, and had many setbacks. Eventually, you become numb to certain elements, emotions, and obstacles in life. You develop an ability to do the things you have to do, wether you like it or not, realizing that it’s not about the small losses, but the big wins. Adversity and resistance builds killer instinct, and the mindset to obliterate any challenges or obstacles before you. I’ve seen people who seemingly have money, fame, and many positive things going for themselves loose it all. Some were born with a “silver spoon.” As soon as they loose a job or the company goes bankrupt, these same people will blow their own brains out. Why? Mental health awareness should be the forefront of our mission, at each level of education. It won’t be the first, or the last, but its a learning experience that only makes us stronger in the long-run. I’m a CEO who went to jail on four occasions, before I got a college degree. I’m a deans list graduate and subject matter expert in the world’s largest industries, but it wasn’t easy. I tell this story to the youth, because I want them to understand that even if you make a mistake, life is not over. Each day is a new opportunity to win, to change, to succeed. We have to dismiss and block all negative energy, believe in ourselves, and be willing to put forth the effort. Strive to be the best. The tortoise beat the hair…
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I come from Pensacola, FL, where the odds of making it out were slim. By the grace of God, and strict guidance from my parents and family, I persevered using education and sports as a way out. I went to the University of Florida, and studied Sports Management with a concentration in golf. My time at UF expanded my network and net worth to another level, and created a foundation for me to pursue my dreams and goals. It was my love for music that was the turning point in my life. Pursuing a career in the music industry, I knew that I didn’t want to be a starving artist. I knew that I would need time and financial resources to pull it off, so I pivoted into the oil industry. In 2005 I moved to Baton Rouge and got into the Petroleum Technology Program at Baton Rouge Community College, graduated on the Deans List, and was recruited by Shell Oil Company to pursue a career in offshore oil production. Using my career in the Gulf of Mexico as a stepping stone, I was able to independently build my own entertainment company, Colacoast. As an independent artist, producer, an CEO, I took Colacoast nationwide and international, eventually building relationships in Colombia, which would allow me the ability to discover TheBestCoffeeYouCanBuy™. My advice is to remain purpose driven. Set your goals high, and create a plan that will supersede your current place and circumstances.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
The biggest challenge in business is to acquire the capital needed to become successful. There are many factors that contribute to having a lack of financial resources in my community, and it’s difficult to connect with those who are in a position to help. The solution is to never give up. There are always things that we need to learn and work on to create more value to what we are trying to accomplish. Don’t make excuses!
