We were lucky to catch up with Reza Safa recently and have shared our conversation below.
Reza, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Growing up surrounded by the love of my four sisters and doting mother instilled in me an extraordinary sense of confidence. From the very moment I picked up a paintbrush, my mother cherished my artistic endeavors and became my greatest encourager. She not only nurtured my passion but also granted me the freedom to embellish the walls of our home with my artwork, believing in me as if I were a young Monet in her eyes.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
From the age of nine, my artistic journey began to flourish in the vibrant atmosphere of Iran, surrounded by artists and musicians. Starting with Persian Calligraphy, I delved into painting and sculpting, nurturing my creative instincts. At just fourteen, I took a bold step into the world of filmmaking, and by sixteen, I proudly staged my own live theatre production. Throughout the past fifty-plus years, my hunger for learning has never ceased, driving me to explore new dimensions of art, including my latest venture into painting with Light and special glass.
Beyond my artistic pursuits, I also hold the role of director for a Christian Television Network, dedicated to broadcasting uplifting Christian programs across the Middle East. To me, art is a profound expression of love and emotions, an endless odyssey in pursuit of the true meaning behind these expressions. It’s a lifelong journey, and I find immense encouragement when others join me on this path, sharing in the wonders of creation and understanding the profound impact art can have on our lives.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on my journey, I can attribute three qualities that have had the most profound impact on my growth and success. Firstly, maintaining the right attitude has been crucial. A solid determination to pursue one’s inner calling, goal, or purpose is essential. It’s important to reach beyond the initial aim, as nothing worthwhile comes easily. Embrace challenges and setbacks with a positive mindset, understanding that they are stepping stones on the path to greatness.
Secondly, knowledge has been a key driving force in my development. Continuously seeking to expand our understanding and expertise is vital for reaching our full potential. Knowledge is not just power; it is the fuel for personal growth. Don’t settle for a surface-level understanding of your skills; delve deep into the subject matter and strive for mastery.
Lastly, love for what you do is the foundation of hunger and motivation. Find joy and passion in every moment of your creative journey. If you truly love your craft, you’ll be driven to explore, learn, and push the boundaries of your abilities. Embrace your artistic pursuits with enthusiasm, for it is this genuine love that propels us to reach new heights.
For those who are early in their journey, I would advise them to embrace these three principles wholeheartedly. Cultivate a positive and determined mindset, acknowledge that learning is a lifelong process, and cherish the love you have for your craft. Aspire to grow and evolve continually, seeking knowledge, and savoring the joy of creation. Remember that every step you take, no matter how small, brings you closer to realizing your true potential as an artist.
