Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rhianna Israni. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rhianna, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Finding my confidence has definitely been an ongoing journey for me. Constantly developing my skills and scaling my photography to the best of my ability has really helped grow my confidence in myself and my work. I have learned that you can not expect others to trust you and your work if you are not confident in yourself. Yes I am confident in who I am and and my art but confidence is not something that is easily won and something that you have to consistently work on. Being comfortable with in who you are and proud of what you create is an ongoing journey and I will strive to continuously improve myself, therefore building the confidence I need for my career.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Growing up I did not always feel that I had a good outlet for my thoughts or my creative mindset. It took me most of my young life to find the thing that I could shine in, the thing that I could confidently stand out in. Finding photography is the first time that I truly felt passion in my work. Although, photography is not something that just happened for me. It was something that I found a slight interest in and just became my hobby for a few years. After learning and further developing skills within photo I have been able to turn that hobby into a fulfilling career. Photography has equally given back to me what I have put into it and I do not plan on stopping anytime soon. My next focus in my career is working on my network so I can branch out into different areas of fashion and lifestyle photography.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The number one skill I have used as a photographer is being personable. A huge part of this industry is who you know and being able to create lasting relationships with clients. I am able to use my diverse background to try and create genuine connections with each person I meet. Making your clients comfortable with you as a photographer goes a far way and overall makes for a better set experience. As a photographer selling a creative service, something that I found important is creating a personal brand. Making a style that is unique to you because potential clients want to know exactly what they are hiring you for.
Advice that I would have for anyone early on is understand your value and know when to say no to work because there will come a time in your career that your focus needs to be on what you are growing in, and that is where your time and full effort need to be. That being said, never think are you above a project because you never know where it may lead you so always put in your best work.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
Feeling overwhelmed or burnt out is something that I believe a lot of creatives struggle with. Something that personally helps me with this is acknowledging that it is normal to feel this way. Prioritizing yourself and what you need is not always easy but it is necessary. Being mentally at your best is when you are capable of creating your best. Each day in my life is a little different between different shoot schedules and traveling but strategies I use to try and avoid the feeling of being overwhelmed or burnt out is I do try my best to keep as much of a routine as possible. As well as keeping a pretty detailed schedule to not fall behind in my work.
