We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rhiannon Crawford. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rhiannon below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Rhiannon with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I watched my parents work day in and day out all while being very present for me and my brothers. My father started his own business, which he and my mom run to this day. Hot summer days, frigid winter nights – my dad was out there to provide the best life possible for all of us. I’m still amazed as to how my mom was able to manage all she did – obtaining 2 degrees while working full time, raising 3 kids, and running the family business with my dad. I had no choice, but to have a strong work ethic!
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I create made to order, custom desserts, with a focus on chocolate covered treats (cakepops, pretzels, oreos, etc.) for all of life’s celebrations. SugarRhi Sweets grew organically after I posted Valentine’s Day sweets for sale to see if anyone would be interested several years ago. Now, I have clients who have ordered from me for their wedding, baby shower and kids birthdays, annually. It is not lost on me that people spend their hard earned money to include desserts made by me in their most special family moments. I look forward to continuing to create, and have some fun things I plan to bring to fruition sooner than later!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Set boundaries: it helps not only you, but your customers as well. You will run yourself ragged otherwise.
Develop processes and workflows that work for you early on.
Be curious! So much information is readily available if we just put in a little effort.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
I would say the number one obstacle I am currently facing in my business is learning to get out of my own way. Even though I am often times overwhelmed by managing everything myself, I feel like I should be ABLE to handle it all on my own, as many others do. However, I have to run my own race. I am working on being comfortable allowing ease by embracing delegation. For example, I despise admin work; I like to create, so why not focus on that?
