We were lucky to catch up with Rhonda Caldwell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rhonda, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Growing up I was a very shy person. I didn’t like to talk to many people and would usually walk around with my head down to ensure no one talks to me either. It wasn’t until high school when i entered drama class, that I started to break out of my shell. We had to do concerts in front of people, and the morning announcement for the entire school. This help me build up my confidence. My self-esteem did not come until after high school. As I was always a plus size girl, it was hard to have self esteem. But as I got older I realized how important it was for me to love myself, or anyone else wouldn’t. So in college I joined a bunch of different groups, and there i learn to love myself.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
A Chick On The Go by Chef Rhonda is my first business. I started it back in 2020 when covid was at the peak. A lot of customers no longer wanted their chef cooking inside of their home. So I created a personal chef business on the go, I was able to rent out a commercial kitchen, and prepare food. Then drop it off to the customers.
The demand for my food grew, and then I knew I had to do something bigger. So, I started looking for a restaurant and realized man this is just a little too expensive for me to pay. Then thanks to faith i met my partner Jamis, and we formed 2 Dope Chicks.
2 Dope Chicks is located in Minneapolis, MN downtown in the MPLS government center on the lower level. We serve a verity of different foods. From breakfast, to southern, pizza, pasta, sandwiches, salad, and just so much more. We try to please everyone that can come into the building.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Never give up, and keep going for what you want.
Patiance: The journey to your success is not easy, or fast. So, enjoy the ride and just let it flow.
Keep learning: No matter how good you get keep learning new things, to keep growing.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
Being a small business owner and getting blessed with over 5,000 sq feet of restaurant space. You have to figure out how to handle overhead cost, and payroll. So that is something i am learning and getting used to.
I have been taking different business classes to learn and asking people above me in the same field for advice.
