We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rich Saner. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rich below.
Hi Rich, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
I’ve never been described by friends as an overly optimistic person. Some would say I can be a bit of a pessimist, but I believe I’m a realist, which is extremely crucial in life. However, when I put my business hat on, I am nothing but optimistic about each event we put on with the hopes it’s wildly successful.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Rich & Bennett produces four events per year, no more, no less. Three are holiday themed pub crawls, the most successful being our St. Patrick’s Day crawl which consistently drew over 20,000 attendees prior to covid. Aside from the crawls we host a NYE party annually to cap off the year. Hands down the most enjoyable part of my job is seeing people have fun. Plain and simple there’s no better joy than seeing a group of strangers laughing & dancing while wearing one of our signature pub crawl shirts. While we are a for profit company, we try to partner with local charities on the majority of our events as our philosophy has always been, the more we make, the more we give back. I believe the majority of people have the ability to donate either their time or money, be it an hour a year or $1. We strive to do both whenever possible.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Along our journey, it was crucial for our business to be organized, resilient, and personable. The latter was my late business partner Jeff Bennett’s absolute specialty! He never met a stranger and interacted so positively with all of our attendees year after year. The beautiful thing about these skill sets are you don’t need to be born with any of them. All three can be gradually developed and improved over time.
Additionally, I’d suggest anyone looking to start a business have one of three things working in their favor:
1) Vast knowledge of the space they are about to enter.
2) Be extremely passionate about the space they are about to enter.
3) Have a low financial risk to entry.
If they don’t have at least one of these, it’ll be an uphill battle from the start.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
It’s impossible to narrow the most impactful thing my parents did for me in my life, but as far as business goes it was their unwavering support. It had to sound insane when I said I was leaving a relatively successful sales job to try and “throw parties” full time. Nonetheless, there was little doubt, if any, in their voices when I’d continually tell them about my plans, successes, as well as failures.
