Meet Richard A. Delgado

We recently connected with Richard A. Delgado and have shared our conversation below.

Richard A., so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

They way I keep my creativity alive is by always creating. It doesn’t matter what time of day it is, where you are , or what circumstances you are in. If you are able to create (design, paint, write, dance, etc.), then do it. The mind is a very powerful tool to utilize, and once you let your imagination run free, there are endless possibilities.

I recall when I was a little kid, I would draw every day, to the point where my dad would constantly buy me new sketchbooks. Then at the age of thirteen, I found myself writing. There were constant ideas and stories that would come to mind, where I felt couldn’t be told in drawings. That is when my passion for writing began. Eventually, this led to my journey into the literary world.

Through my constant passion for creating, I have been blessed with opportunities that have helped me grow as an artist in the world of entertainment. By the grace of God, I do not see myself stopping anytime soon. I believe we are all blessed with gifts that should be shared, but it is up to us to decide what to do with those gifts. My advice to others is to keep creating, stay motivated, and strive to be the best you can be.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I was born in Monterrey, Mexico, but raised in Houston, Texas. After many years of learning how to draw from my dad and learning how to embrace my artistic side from my siblings, I moved out to Los Angeles in 2018 with my wife, to pursue a career as an artist. After receiving my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Media Arts & Animation, and my Master of Fine Arts in Visual Development, I studied acting at Next Actor Studio As a part time actor, I became involved in projects such as USA Network’s “Queen of the South”, “Beyond the Red City”, “Team of Two” and other short films and independent projects. Over the years, I have created numerous personal projects, and worked a long side many known clients. One in particular has been the talented Latin musician and Grammy nominee, Lupita Infante. I have been recognized as a multi-talented artist, and been interviewed by radio TV shows, and podcasts such as, Inspiration for your Soul, Chat and Spin Radio, KUHS Radio/TV Denver, The Way Things Are Podcast, and among others. Also, I have been issued in magazines and articles such as, Magic Image Hollywood, Heart of Hollywood, High Fashion Magazine, Vampyre Magazine, Celebz Treasure: Daily News from the Vine, Marylou Magazine from Texas, and many others. In addition, I have won 18 awards from numerous writing competitions, Including the Masters Certificate of Recognition in Literature by La Preparatoria 5 UANL of Sabinas, Hidalgo in Mexico, after participating in their 56th Anniversary of their “Cultural Week” workshop, to inspire the future generations of young Mexican writers. After publishing my first novel “The Ancient Chronicles: The Newborn” in 2018, I have been able to build the Ancient Chronicles universe for more sequels to come. Since then, it has gained worldwide popularity from the horror/fantasy community and has received outstanding reviews from various online platforms such as, Amazon, Lulu, Goodreads and more. Since establishing my own studio, RAD Studios, my wife and I are currently developing our first horror/comedy live action feature film alongside a team of amazing producers in Los Angeles. Additionally, we are developing a Sci-fi animated TV series, a 2-D animation story based on true events, and the sequel to The Ancient Chronicles: The Newborn. We are really looking forward to bringing fresh new content for all audiences around the world to enjoy.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three qualities I believe are most important is one, putting God in my life first and foremost. As a Catholic and growing up in a Mexican household, He is very important in my life as an artist and as a person. The second quality would be confidence, and the third quality would be creativity. You need to have confidence in order to do what you love most. With confidence, no one will ever tell you otherwise, and you would rid yourself of any negative thoughts and self-doubt. Having confidence in yourself and what you are passionate about leads to your freedom of creativity. By being creative, you are able to find creative solutions to any problem or obstacle that come your way.

The areas of knowledge and skills I believe are most important is to try and explore other mediums in the areas that make you an artist. For me, I like to explore both traditional drawing/painting on paper, and digital painting in Photoshop. Learning the old ways and mixing it with the new programs can broaden your skillset to develop more ideas and projects. Additionally, understanding the importance of teamwork can go a long way. Always be willing to work well with other creative minds, because two minds are always better than one. As many have said, teamwork makes the dreamwork, and in this industry that is very true. If it wasn’t for my team and collaborations with other creative minds I wouldn’t be where I am today. Especially, having support from family and friends. Lastly, stay humble, and be willing to embrace criticism and learn from those before us. Always believe in your God-given gifts, to inspire others and bring a positive change to the world.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

My Lord, and Savior, Jesus Christ. My God. From the experiences and challenges I have faced; I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Him. He is always there and has shown me time and time again, that long as I have Him in my life, nothing will defeat me. Additionally, with my wife, my parents, my family and friends, I have been able to keep pushing forward. With their support, I have been able to develop the essential skills, qualities, and knowledge I need to be the artist I am today. They have always been there for me every step of the way; giving me advice, feedback, and guidance to better myself and pursue my passions. Thank you everyone who follows and supports what I do. Thank you, Lord, for using me as your instrument of your peace, and a channel of your love. Thank you all, and God bless!
