Meet RICHARD WARD

We were lucky to catch up with RICHARD WARD recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi RICHARD, so happy to have you on the platform with us today and excited to chat about your lessons and insights. Our ability to make good decisions can massively impact our lives, careers and relationships and so it would be very helpful to hear about how you built your decision-making skills.

I had the privilege of being a firefighter paramedic driver engineer for 23 years. Through that endeavor I learned as much what to do as to what not to do. Handling emergency scenes and dealing with so many unknowns you learn to look at things from many angles and perspectives. This has enabled me to take a common issue and be able to.interrupt and get ideas of how to overcome the situation

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

As a leader in the fire service I developed many skills from problem solving to strategic thinking to active listening. Although I’m now retired from fire service I use the 23 years of service and skill development to assist people in their daily lives navigate decisions, stories and limiting beliefs to get unstuck and create unstoppable momentum that helps them create their life by design, which is the name of our company and the podcast that I co-host with my wife.

I absolutely enjoy helping people realize that they are so much more than their circumstances dictate and I’m honored to be a small part of their journey!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Believe it or not, I believe The best and the worst that I’ve experienced is being influenced by parents that don’t invest in their kids. Many people will use that situation and take on a victim role. I was able to take that negative energy and turn it into something positive. This influenced me in a manner that I realized that I can accomplish anything.

As in a skill, I believe my ability to truly listen to people, and in a way tune out the outside noise and listen and learn and help people

Through fire, rescue training and going through the trauma of working fire rescue I learned the importance of communication and the ability to understand what it means to have post traumatic stress disorder. Many people go through life and truly don’t understand their feelings are valid, even when others don’t understand it or even believe in it

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

The person that helped me overcome, amazing challenges believe it or not is my wife. She has an innate ability of looking at things differently than me, and we work together, and we create a solutions to problems that we have encountered all of our lives. The hardest thing about that type of communication. Is putting your pride aside , slowing down and truly listen to each other
