Meet Rick Roman

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rick Roman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Rick, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
My generosity comes from my core belief that when you help others you help yourself. The good you do for others will come back to you. Not always in the way you think or when you want.

The movie theatre I manage hosted a special party for a little girl who has the terminal disease which is a form of childhood Alzheimer’s . Here is what her mom posted on Facebook.

It has taken me a few days to collect my feelings because I have been so overwhelmed with your love, compassion, & your generosity! First off Rick you are simply AMAZING! Rick is the owner of the theatre. We were supposed to go on our Make-A-Wish trip sometime in September or October of this year so when I saw the new Stitch was coming out I wrote the theatre to rent a party room for the reveal! What better way to reveal her wish to meet Stitch was granted, than to tell her at the theatre of the new Stitch Movie!

Well that did not work for Rick! He would not let me rent ANYTHING even though I tried multiple times. He said he can do one better! He not only allowed us to have a party room he also threw in a PRIVATE theatre, 40 free tickets, all the Stitch swag for our girl, official movie poster for Stitch, & free concession stand goodies for her! FREE! & he did all of this on OPENING weekend when he was sold out across the board! This man is a complete stranger to our family! Rick from the bottom of my Momma heart THANK YOU SO MUCH! Thank you for helping us make a lifetime of memories in a short amount of time for our girl!

What touched my heart the most was an email from the Mom after the party. She wrote “You are making such a beautiful memory for her. With her having a form of Alzheimer’s she may not remember this for the rest of her life but I will never forget this!”

For a while now my theatre have stopped getting standees of movies. I tried to find out why but the studios had no answer. I thought the big chains were getting them all. Moviegoers love standees. They are a photo op waiting to happen. My theatre’s moviegoers really missed them

When I called to get a poster of Lilo and Stitch for the little girl, I found out that somehow the theatre was listed as not wanting standees. They did not know when or why we were listed that way. I had them change it to wanting standees. A few days later we received a standee for Jurassic World Rebirth.

The point is I was only calling because of helping the little girl. Getting the standees coming again is a BIG DEAL. The good did come back.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My day job is managing a movie theatre. It is a great job where my mission is to make people smile. When you are counting your riches by the smiles you bring to others. It is the perfect job. No matter what you do, if you make them smile you have done an awesome job.

My love is writing songs that move and touch hearts. I have written a musical and over 70 songs. My specialty is writing Christmas songs. I have written a script based on one of my Christmas song “Three Houses Down”. The song is a letter to Santa where a young boy asks Santa to give his Christmas to the boy three houses down. I hope to produce the movie someday.

My passion is making people laugh. Since November of 2023, I have been doing standup comedy. Besides the joy that comes from my performances, I have been developing material for a one man show called the Secret to Happiness Tour. The show is about the 4 verses I wrote for my daughter heading off to college. I wrote for her the Meaning of Life, What Love Is, What Wealth Is and The Secret To Happiness. The verse Secret to Happiness was sold in Walmart for a number of years as an inspirational plaque.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in my journey are being kind to others, trusting my instincts and people, and the power of the “One Thing”

There are two things everyone should want to grow up to be. They are happy and kind. Being kind takes very little to be and will always return more than what it takes.

Yes, you will be burned sometimes when trusting people. I have found that if you don’t trust people, people will not trust you. Call it your gut feeling but trust your instincts. They won’t always be right but when they are right you will reap the rewards.

Everyone has “One Thing” that they are most proud of, have a passion for, or is their dream. Find out what that is and connect to them with it.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am always looking for songwriters to collaborate or partners for writing songs. I can be reached at [email protected]. If anyone is interested in booking my one man show The Secret to Happiness, send an email to [email protected]
