We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rissi D’Gouso a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rissi, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
My mother showed me the language of the Forest, the language of the Sea.
The codes of the trees, of the waters, guided me in understanding the design of our interwoven oneness – the purpose of our togetherness.
Through rhythm meditations of the Malinke Empire I learned the language of Spirit through light and air. The essence of elements speaking through mandalas of sound and movement.
It gave me sight of energy, a vision of a Blossom.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Peace.Rise.Bloom Ceremony: Mother Earth Prayer
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
In my journey, the most important practices have been patience, focus and honor.
Gratitude for meditations through Yoga, Kora and Dunun – deepening and expanding layers of our conscious energies.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
My Mother, my soulmate, wise Spirit – nurtured discipline, unity, loyalty in the circle of sisters she gave life to. She taught us of our Cherokee root.
My mother, sunlight essence. She spoke through feathers, rhythms, the dance of the Sky.
My father led us through the Forest paths, teaching us of Mother Earth’s harvests.
He tended the land, the trees. He built our home with his hands. He welcomed our villagers to gather around the fire, in melody, harmony.
