Meet Rita Stevens

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rita Stevens a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Rita, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

My journey into advocacy and empowerment began with my son’s traumatic brain injury and induced glaucoma, which resulted in cerebral palsy and visual impairments. Navigating this life-altering experience, my family faced years of uncertainty, feeling silenced and often lost as they struggled to find the resources and guidance they desperately needed.
This challenging path ignited a passion within me to help other families on similar journeys. I wanted to bridge the gap between where they are and the resources they need to move forward. From this vision, Silent Voyces was born—a nonprofit dedicated to empowering parents of children with special needs.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m Rita Stevens—Author of Unexpected Patterns of Purpose, Transformational Speaker, and Founder of Silent Voyces. I use my unique revelations to challenge others to believe in themselves and take an active step towards life purpose. This challenging path ignited a passion within me to help other families on similar journeys. I wanted to bridge the gap between where they are and the resources they need to move forward. The “Y” in Voyces symbolizes You—a reminder to every parent that they have a voice and that we are here to walk alongside them, advocating for their children and their families.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. Be willing to give yourself grace. You will not know everything and sometimes you will feel lost along the way. You need to know that its ok and the right help will come.
2. Be open to new perspectives. Your perspective is only one way of viewing a problem or a potential solution
3. Slow down. Sometimes when life has so many moving pieces, we often miss the things that are most important

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

At Silent Voyces, we believe in the power of partnership. We’re always seeking passionate individuals, organizations, and businesses who share our heart for service—especially those who believe that children with disabilities deserve every opportunity to thrive.

If your mission aligns with creating access, equity, and empowerment for families of children with special needs, we want to collaborate with you.

There are many meaningful ways to support our work, including:

– Corporate sponsorships

– Guest features for therapy/service providers on our podcast

– In-kind donations (equipment, space, supplies)

– Donated building space for events or programs

– Gift certificates or service discounts

– And other creative contributions that make a difference

No effort is too small. Your partnership can help amplify voices, expand services, and uplift entire families.

Let’s join forces to create lasting impact—one voice, one family, one story at a time.
