Meet Rob Fountain

We were lucky to catch up with Rob Fountain recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Rob, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience comes from knowing no matter how bleak it looks I can and will find a way out! In October of 1995 I was diagnosed with bi-polar after a 7 day stay at the Georgia Mental Health Institute, each year for several years I struggled with deep bouts of depression, hypo manic and manic episodes. I attracted financial troubles and on occasion the police. In the fall of 97 I spent an additional 7 days in the Kennestone Mental Health wing. One day in the shower, (because I thought clearly in the shower for some reason) I prayed. I gave up, broken, hopeless and I said God if this is how my life is going to be allow me to find a way to make it a blessing, allow me to use it so I can share my story to help others. That prayer has been answered time and time again and will till the day I no longer have breath. From that point I started a 5-year journey to find the right medication mix, back then the meds were not as effective, predictable and damaging to the body. In my 54 years I have learned that the mind is a powerful thing, with practice it can be tamed with minimal medication…. if you lose control of it stay calm and let it take its course. I am not afraid of rock bottom, I have visited there many times, in fact I have a hall pass to go down and grab somebody and push them up from behind. 😊

For years I have kept this blessing under my coat in the business world, I have been moving my way through my career and was afraid knowledge of it may hinder my progress. I am no longer afraid of people knowing my past, I am positioned to land like a cat if I am toppled, no matter how high or far you toss me I will land on my feet. Today I have controlled struggles, I am blessed daily………I smile, and I try to impact someone daily. I also have the strongest partner in the world in my wife Carrie and the most supportive extended family, a person like me could ask for. I am truly blessed.
More recent rock bottoms, November 2021. 8 days in the hospital with Covid in the critical decision unit, followed by a little over a month at home on a oxygen machine. The rebound from that with damaged lungs has been quite a journey also…..lost 65lbs, best shape of my life and 3x stronger. I am prepared for another bout should it find me!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I entered the RE industry 21 years ago after leaving the mortgage industry. I quickly got off to a great start and was consistently at the top or competing for the top production at every Brokerage office I worked at. I joined Fathom 10 years ago and was consistently the top agent in GA for the company. 2016-2017 I was at the top of my production but I wasn’t happy even though I was making more than I had ever made….proof that happiness can not be found in money. I knew the Real Estate roller coaster so well that I could sleep on it…because I knew every twist and turn. I was board, I do not do well when I am board and unchallenged. I had been asked several times to step into management at the state level but resisted, On Jan 9th 2018 my District Director passed in her sleep and it was a wake up call to me. I realized that my life is more than just making money, and I needed to get back to my passion of helping others. I quickly realized that I enjoy watching others riding the Real Estate roller coaster. As a District Director I recruit, train and motivate agents to be their best, I currently manage 165 agents in the metro Atlanta area. I am also a founding partner with Titan Team Realtors, a team focused on dominating this next market 2025 and beyond.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1.Intregrity: You spend a lifetime to create it, but you can lose it in a split second with a bad decision.

2, Patience: Good things come to those who wait. Move at reality’s pace not your brains pace. Either speed your brain up or slow it down. If you are a fast thinker be careful, I can’t tell you how many times I went broke buying leads too early, if your brain is slow then you need to speed it up or be late to the party.

3. Being unreasonable: “The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.”
— George Bernard Shaw. That is not exactly a trait but then again I live outside the box.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

With the emergence of AI I believe many including myself are feverishly putting systems and processes in place to compete at a high level for our clients. We have ideas on where this market may go but we are not sure how it is going to play out. Right now we are in one of worst RE markets in history. It’s a cycle just like the 2009 crash we will rebound and those that adjusted well will dominate the next market. Real Estate is always a cycle.
