Meet Rob Kleiner

We recently connected with Rob Kleiner and have shared our conversation below.

Rob, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I think it’s about learning to trust yourself, and that happens through lots of practice. I don’t trust myself to walk a tight rope because I’ve never done it. If I practiced for a few months I might begin to build my confidence but still probably not enough enough to rid myself of anxiety and doubt. After a year of practicing I’d probably be sure footed and have it down. I think this analogy applies perfect for my journey into getting good at my craft. After putting in your “10,000 hours” things become like second nature. Your instincts kick in and you trust them to take you where you need to go.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
In the music business I’m a creative jack of all trades. I’m a songwriter, a producer, and a mixing and mastering engineer. I also mix in Dolby Atmos. I own a recording studio and am also known for vocal production. I have a resume full of major label and independent music as well as grammy nominations and platinum records. I currently work a lot with an artist named Labrinth. Together we’ve worked on the soundtrack to HBOs Euphoria as well as his latest few artist releases. Last year I worked as the mastering engineer on dozens of film soundtracks for various networks and labels including the soundtrack of Avatar: the Way of Water, which features a single by The Weeknd. I also currently work on the mix team for the music that goes into the popular game “Valorant”. When all is said and done my name goes into the credits on well over 1000 songs a year.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Staying organized, motivated, and managing time effectively. This applies to being an artist, being self employed, and life in general. For me doing all 3 of these things well is always a work in progress. Mostly it revolves around keeping good habits and getting rid of bad habits. Recognizing what helps me stay on track and leaning into it. Also acknowledging things that derail me and trying to stay away from that.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Hermann Hesse’s “Siddhartha” is the book that’s had the most impact on my life and my habits. The main lesson for me from the book was to be open to new things, go with the flow in life, and not get trapped by worrying about things you can’t control. After reading that book I became much more accepting towards other ways of thinking and less committed to what could often become my own tunnel vision. These days I don’t have to worry about the stress that sort of mindset can create.
