We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rob Swymer a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rob, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
This is a link to my TEDx talk where I outline my triple A process to overcome adversity and build resilience in life and business. I will be talking about how this process can be leveraged to build resilience in both life and business. The key message is that you can not just survive adversity, but you can thrive again after.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
After retiring from a 42 year career in sales/sales leadership in high tech I am focused now on giving back to the next generation of leaders in life and business. Passing on the lessons I have learned through the adversity I have gone through in my life, helping others thrive and live and work in a peak state.
I bring a proven new perspective on how we overcome adversity and build resilience. I have a three step process or what I call the triple A process of overcoming adversity which includes; Accepting, Appreciating and Assessing your options, pulling back and then moving forward with new purpose and perspective.
My newest and most impactful practice that I am bringing to the keynote stage is called Physical Intelligence (PI). PI is the ability to harness and unleash the chemicals in our body to live in peak state. I call it a D.O.S.E; of peak state chemicals; Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin, and Endorphins. My work on stage is centered around body movement, breath work and visualization, changing the state of the room and helping people take control of their bodies, feelings and emotions. Ultimately, this give them the ability to lead better and build stronger relationships with those they work with, their customers, family, friends and community.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My life changed dramatically on July 31, 2013 when I lost my wife of 32 years suddenly to a brain aneurism. It was in the moment that I needed to call on. my resilience, having already gone through and conquering addiction, depression and thoughts of suicide to name a few, I knew I could find a way to thrive again.
I became a student of my game and began a journey of self discovery. As you could imagine, going through the process of loss, I needed to find my why, I need to understand my reason for being here. I have been on the journey of transformation now for well over a decade and I am now convinced that my purpose, my why is to serve, to serve others by sharing my story and passing on my lessons learned.
I have found my core values to be:
1. Love and Connection-the ability to make human connections and bring love to the business world, leading with empahy and servant leadership is a game changer
2. Demonstrate a growth mindset-always be learning, being comfortable being uncomfortable and breaking through those limited beliefs
3. Make living in a state of Gratitude non-negotiable. This is the foundation for strong mental health and a key tenant to living in a peak state for me.
How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is a company or organization that is looking to activate their team to live and work in a peak state. Although I come from the high tech world, my principles can be applied to any industry.
My mission is to serve the next generation of leaders in life and business and give them the tools they need to thrive and impact others around them.
Of course, I am also passionate about helping others overcome adversity and build resilience in life and business. Having spent over 4 decades in the high tech world, I have a lot of lessons to pass on and I look forward to serving those that call on me. I promise to over deliver and leave them with life skills they can use in both their professional and personal life.
