Meet Rob Walker

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rob Walker a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Rob, so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?

To keep it real, when poeple are hating on me its my fuel that gives me drive. Without my haters I would never be successful. Really, I actually need my haters. Big Shoutout to all my haters out here!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m a New Orleans Trombonist / frontman in 5 bands: Street Legends Brass Band, W’Yat Brass Band, All For One Brass Band, Lagniappe Brass Band & City Of Trees Brass Band. Now depending on the season, I can play any where from 10-20 gigs a week. See, I love to entertain people. I love to be the life of the party and to do it as often as I do, brings me all the joy in the world. What makes it so special is I can go anywhere in the world and just play on the street and bring anyone that joy too; while I make a living .

Be on the look out because Street Legends has a new song coming out in 2025 “Life of the rich”, and the meaning behind that song is me saying I want the LIFE of the rich and famous, but really I want the MONEY of the rich and famous. So,
if you’re in New orleans one weekend come turn up with us at the Blue Nile on Sunday nights (10:30pm)

And if you can’t come to New Orleans

We just gonna have to come to a city Near You and when we do we’re gonna rock your M***f***ng socks off.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

“A closed mouth don’t get fed” is what I always say. So you gotta speak up for yourself. If you wanna put yourself out there you gotta let ur self be known and heard. No one js gonna hold your hand out here. So don’t be afraid to speak up. That honestly has helped me a lot ; speaking up

Be mindful though, when you speak up you gotta be tactful. Being in this music game it can be kind of a lose-lose game. It’s really hard for most poeple to win at this game and find success. So, you have to find your strategy and figure what works and what doesn’t.

Also, being adaptable to those losses and taking them as something you can learn from. To win that knowledge, helps you figure out what to do and not to do. Being able to go with the flow, so you learn from your mistakes. So it won’t be lose-lose situation the next time.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?

My ideal client is someone who hires us because they love my original music and they trust that I’m going to fullfill my duties with confidence that everyone will love.

For instance, sometimes we have poeple at parties who request songs and it makes me feel like someone just hired us because they think we would sound cool playing songs they like and not because they genuinely like who we are and our music and what we do as proffessionals. I’d prefer clients who actually want to have a good time with us as a band. Even though I have done requests before because I know I have to make my clients happy , I would prefer not to do them and just be free to have a good time and come as I am.
