We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rob “YB” Youngblood. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rob “YB” below.
Rob “YB”, thank you so much for making time for us today. We can’t wait to dive into your story and the lessons you’ve learned along the way, but maybe we can start with something foundational to your success. How have you gone about developing your ability to communicate effectively?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a “talker”. In middle school, teachers would place on my report card that I was a very conscientious student but I just talked too much.
However, there is a difference being able to talk and having the ability to communicate.
A major part of communicating is being able to listen, process and then share thoughts. I developed the ability to communicate in 4 ways.
First, as a teenager, I enrolled into youth development programs which challenged me to develop my leadership skills. I was given opportunities to present ideas and information through structured and unstructured presentations.
Second, as a college student, I was challenged by a mentor to read more. By reading, I would improve my vocabulary and thereby become more relatable when I spoke.
Third, I joined Toastmasters as an adult and perfected my presentation skills.
Lastly, I studied mentors and coaches who enhanced my ability to self assess and improved my ability to be more direct not only in public speaking but in my various interpersonal relationships where being direct was important for accomplishing specific goals.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As Founder of The Collaboration Creates Currency Movement, I support the personal, professional and business development efforts of aspiring entrepreneurs, business owners, corporate leaders, job seekers, sales professionals, speakers and students, who want to enhance connections, credibility, and currency.
I am on a mission to break the cycle of financial, mental & relationship poverty by empowering people to build wealth through leveraging their God-given gift.
I am a 2x Author, Award Winning Speaker, Public Relations Consultant, Visionary Business Coach and Top Business Networking Voice. In many circles, I’m known as The LinkedIn Locksmith because of my ability to unlock the power of LinkedIn for my clients who want to increase their influence, impact, and income while leveraging the platform as a public relations tool that allows them to attract business, career and speaking opportunities, sell more books and change lives.
Since 2016, I have coached over 1000 professionals to leverage LinkedIn to create currency through collaboration.
Currently, I’m enhancing the visibility of The Collaboration Creates Currency Movement through my 2nd book “Collaboration Creates Currency: The Blueprint for Visibility, Credibility, and Profitability”; speaking engagements, along with my coaching and consulting.
I recently launched The LinkedIn Locksmith Mentorship Community as a vehicle to empower, inspire and impact lives while teaching members how to monetize LinkedIn.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
One of my mentors taught me that we have access to 3 powers that have the potential to improve our lives if we apply them.
These powers are:
The power of the spoken word
The power of submission
The power of unity
Each power provides opportunities for us to grow personally, professionally, spiritually and economically.
The best advice I could give is to gain a greater understanding of these 3 powers, adopt them into our daily practice and leverage them to empower, inspire and impact others.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
Chambers of Commerces fall into the category of being my ideal client, simply because they work with Business Owners & Sales Professionals who are the people that benefit most from the work I do.
There are professionals who become business owners or operate in sales who struggle with clarity, confidence and the ability to communicate. Thus, Chambers of Commerce who attract these type of members offer fertile ground for business growth for me as I can attract, inspire and improve the skills of these members so they can add value to their Chamber and the organizations they serve.
