Meet Robb Grinnen

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Robb Grinnen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Robb below.

Robb, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

My father was one of the hardest working men I knew. He always worked long hours and he worked for himself. He was always his own boss. He taught me so much, including how to work through problems and to always be honest and fair with your clients. He recently passed away from cancer that he fought for 15 years so he could see his grandkids. He never quit moving until the day was done. Also, my daughter inspires me daily with her curiosity about the world. I hope she becomes curious of bees one day as I did.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a Gemini so I start a lot of projects. I guess you can say “jack of all master of none”. I became curious about bees and kinda got sucked in. I love the process of going through a hive. It is almost therapeutic, like meditation. I was in a terrible motorcycle accident that almost took my life at no fault of my own a little over a year ago. I got life flighted and broke so many bones. My entire life has been learning how to bounce back from different situations. Pucker Pig LLC is a company that sells natural organic unfiltered raw honey and honey products. Right now we are just getting started. I have so many ideas for growth. I am so excited for you to try this honey. Check it out at puckerpig.com

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Leadership is one. I never was one to just follow, I always thought my idea was worth hearing about. Guess I got that from my dad. I started out as a bus boy in a local restaurant chain and worked my way up to running multi‐million dollar companies. Operations managment was always the sweet spot.

Compassion is another. Clients know when you care, they can feel it. I used to be an OM at a company that helped hoarders clean out their homes. It takes understanding and compassion to help someone let go of items.

Communication is key. I was a vocalist most of my younger life. Singing metal and classic rock. It took my fear of public speaking away and let me show more confidence when selling a car at the dealership or a jar of honey online.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

I think everything business starting up comes across the financial burden of starting a business. I am still learning and slowly scaling up so I don’t bankrupt myself. I know it will grow and I think the most challenging situations will be what decisions to make when they are presented.
