Meet Robert Gross

We recently connected with Robert Gross and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Robert with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My parents and siblings, they’ve always been the ones who made sure I went down the correct path in life whether it was direct advice or subliminal. I always try to surround myself with like minded individuals. Creatives mostly, no matter what it is I end up doing in life I always want to create. I fell in love with clothes and fashion from seeing those around me make a lifestyle of it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
NVUS (Envy Us) is the name of my clothing brand. I created this brand in February of 2023, dropping my first piece May of 2023. This was only the beginning of a growing passion of mine. I’ve always been very into fashion and clothing and originally thought that my passion was to model clothing. I tapped into the Cleveland fashion scene looking for local brands and creatives to connect with and potentially work and model with. Brands like Prey for the prey, Bouey, 49 grand, etc. who originally got me into the fashion scene and show me the potentially cleveland artist have. It wasn’t until I started playing around with designing my own pieces that I realized my true passion was to make clothes and see people wear and model for me. I am in my beginning stages of creating clothes and I actually produce all of my pieces myself. My close friend Andres Luna is a graphic designer who helps me with my graphics and I screenprint all of my drops from the burning to printing of the pieces. I love to familiarize myself with all the aspects of creating clothes so down the line I am well rounded in printing, cut and sew, etc. that is the main goal to be able to create clothing from scratch. With 2023 coming to an end I’ve had 5 previous drops of women’s and men’s clothing, one amazing pop up, and tons of connections and supporters gained through my clothing. I have one more drop for this year dropping late November early December.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Perserverence, originaltiy, and humbleness.

With whatever you do in your life just make sure you get up everyday and get to it. Little by little work at your craft and produce the best possible work you can make that not only appeals to your audience but it true and original to yourself as an artist. Stay humble, those who appreciate your work will follow it and those who don’t aren’t your target audience. Appreciate your supporters and continue to give them your best work.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Do not compare your life and your circumstances or even your work to others. I tend to find myself comparing others work, following, quality, revenue, etc to my own but I then have to step back and realize I am doing the best work I can do in my specific circumstances. I also am enjoying myself which is most important. I began this clothing business as a hobby while currently working a full time job as well as being a full time STEM major. Now that it has gained some attention I have to juggle the three and at times I get discouraged and drained but have to step back and realize nothing is a competition. I have people who support my clothing so I will continue to produce and do what I enjoy.
