Meet Robert Isaiah Wright

We recently connected with Robert Isaiah Wright and have shared our conversation below.

Robert Isaiah, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

I feel the most creative when I’m alone, driving, with music blasting. I listen to the instruments, the way everything flows together.

Before I fell in love with creating videos, I took the time to understand music, playing instruments, breaking down sounds, learning how a song tells a story.

Now, when I hear a song, I don’t just hear it. I see it. Every instrument, every beat, every little detail feels like a story.

But being creative isn’t always that easy. Creative blocks get me all the time. Most of the time, it happens after I have filmed everything. I sit down to edit, and suddenly, what I imagined isn’t hitting the way I thought it would. The vision I had isn’t matching what I shot.

So I take what I filmed and try to tell a different story with it. And sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t. But I keep going until I make something I’m proud of.

Like this one time, I was editing a Day in the Life video. It was a Friday night, I had all my footage, but I was watching it back and I realized there was no purpose, and there was no story.

So I too a break and grabbed an Oreo. And then another one. And while I was sitting there, chewing on the cookies, listening to Jason Mraz, I decided to tell a story from the unexpected. The song I was listening to had a calm start. And then everything changed it was… Unexpected, and that’s what helped me get out of a creative block.

So I keep my creativity alive through music, and by flipping the script when things don’t go as planned. And if all else fails, I wait until the deadline forces me to push through.

Because at the end of the day, something is always better than nothing.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Before anything else, I am a brother, a son, a grandson, a cousin, an uncle, a friend, and a child of God. These roles shape me just as much as my work does because at the core of everything I create, there is always a connection to the people around me.

I am a storyteller at my core. Whether it is through filmmaking, editing, or creating digital content, my focus is always on capturing moments and turning them into something that connects with people. I do not just make videos. I tell stories.

What makes my work special is the way I approach creativity. I do not limit myself to one type of content or one format. One day I might be crafting a cinematic piece with deep storytelling. The next I am making a funny skit that still holds meaning. My goal is to take everyday moments and turn them into something people feel, whether that is laughter, inspiration, or simply a moment of appreciation for the art of storytelling.

Right now I am in a phase of pushing my creativity to its highest level. This year is all about growth, expanding my storytelling, refining my production, and challenging myself to flip the script on what content creation can be.

One of the biggest things I am working on is my new series, Behind the Brand, where I highlight creators, artists, and brands that inspire me. I want to give people their flowers while they are still here, shining a light on talent that deserves recognition.

My name is Robert Isaiah Wright but when it comes to storytelling I am DubsMadeIt and DubsMadeIt is me. This journey is bigger than just content creation. It is about leaving a mark, telling stories that matter, and creating something that lasts.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, three things have made the biggest difference in my journey.

First, putting myself in rooms where I wasn’t the best. Growth happens when you surround yourself with people who challenge and inspire you. Instead of letting that intimidate me, I listened, learned, and absorbed everything I could from those ahead of me. If you’re just starting out, don’t be afraid to step into spaces where you feel out of place. That is where the real learning happens. Stay open, stay observant, and take in as much knowledge as possible from those who have already walked the path you are on.

Second, being optimistic regardless of the outcome. Not everything I have created has worked out exactly as planned, but I never let that stop me. Optimism is not just about believing everything will go right. It is about knowing that even when things do not, there is still something to gain. Every setback is either a lesson or a redirection. Keep pushing forward even when things do not go as expected. Focus on the process, not just the results. The more you trust your journey, the more opportunities you will create for yourself.

Third, my community and the people around me. The connections I have made and the support I have received have played a huge role in my growth. Whether it is people believing in my work, challenging me to improve, or providing opportunities to sharpen my craft, none of this happens alone. Surrounding myself with the right people has helped me push my creativity further than I ever could have on my own.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

My new series, Behind the Brand, is the focus of this year. I’m excited to collaborate with artists, entrepreneurs, creators, influencers, and anyone with a compelling story to share.
