Meet Robert Lederhilger

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Robert Lederhilger. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Robert, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

Finding my purpose was a journey that unfolded over time, shaped by both my faith and life experiences. I’ve always believed that our purpose is tied to serving others, but it wasn’t until I faced a pivotal moment in my career that this belief truly crystallized.

Years ago, I was running a business that, on the surface, was successful. But something felt off—I wasn’t fulfilled. I realized I was chasing success for its own sake, rather than aligning my work with my values. Around that time, I started reflecting deeply on my faith and asking God for guidance. I prayed for clarity, and the answer came in ways I didn’t expect.

I began learning about individuals who had been impacted by the justice system. Hearing their stories of struggle and resilience opened my eyes to a world I hadn’t fully understood. Many of them were incredibly talented and driven, but they faced overwhelming barriers to employment and opportunity. It struck me that these individuals didn’t need handouts—they needed a chance to rebuild their lives with dignity. That realization lit a fire in me.

I knew I could use my business experience to create something meaningful, something that combined my passion for entrepreneurship with my desire to make a difference. That’s how Kingdom Business Builders was born. It’s a place where faith, business, and community come together to empower people—whether it’s helping entrepreneurs grow with integrity or giving those with civil disabilities the tools to succeed.

Looking back, I see that my purpose was always there, waiting for me to step into it. It wasn’t about finding something new; it was about aligning my work with my faith and values. And now, every day, I get to live that purpose by helping others discover theirs.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

At Kingdom Business Builders, we’re on a mission to transform the way people approach business by putting faith and integrity at the forefront. We’re a nonprofit organization that supports entrepreneurs in building successful businesses while staying true to their values. What makes us unique is our blend of faith-based principles and practical business tools. We don’t just help people grow their businesses; we help them grow as individuals, aligning their work with their purpose.

One of the most exciting aspects of what we do is our weekly meetings. These aren’t your typical networking events. They’re a space where entrepreneurs can come together for Bible study, prayer, and meaningful discussions about how to navigate the challenges of business with integrity. It’s a community where people truly support one another, and that’s something special.

Another part of our work that I’m incredibly passionate about is our focus on helping individuals with civil disabilities, particularly those with felony convictions. These individuals often face immense barriers to employment, but we believe in second chances. Through our programs, we provide them with the resources and mentorship they need to start their own businesses and rebuild their lives. It’s amazing to see how entrepreneurship can restore not just financial stability, but also dignity and hope.

As for what’s new, we’re expanding our reach and looking to grow our community of like-minded entrepreneurs. We’re also enhancing our support for individuals impacted by the justice system, with plans to offer more tools, mentorship opportunities, and funding to help them succeed. It’s an exciting time for Kingdom Business Builders, and we’re eager to welcome more people into this movement of faith-driven entrepreneurship.

At the heart of it all, Kingdom Business Builders is about creating an ethical marketplace where trust and integrity thrive. Whether you’re a seasoned entrepreneur or just starting out, we’re here to help you grow your business while staying true to your values. And as we grow, we’re committed to making a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most. That’s what drives us every day.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back on my journey, I’d say the three most impactful qualities or skills were resilience, faith, and the ability to build meaningful relationships. Each of these played a critical role in shaping who I am and the work I do today.

1. Resilience: Life and business are full of challenges, and resilience is what keeps you moving forward when things get tough. For me, resilience came from learning to see setbacks as opportunities for growth. Whether it was a business failure or a personal challenge, I tried to focus on what I could learn and how I could come back stronger. My advice for developing resilience is to embrace a growth mindset. Understand that failure isn’t the end—it’s a stepping stone. Surround yourself with people who encourage you, and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

2. Faith: My faith has been the foundation of everything I do. It’s what gives me purpose and guides my decisions, especially in difficult times. Faith isn’t just about belief; it’s about trust—trusting that there’s a bigger plan and that you’re part of something meaningful. For those early in their journey, I’d encourage you to take time to reflect on your values and what truly matters to you. Whether it’s through prayer, meditation, or journaling, find a way to connect with your purpose and let it guide your path.

3. Building Relationships: No one succeeds alone. The ability to build genuine, meaningful relationships has been one of the most valuable skills in my journey. Whether it’s connecting with mentors, collaborating with peers, or supporting others, relationships are the foundation of any successful endeavor. My advice is to approach relationships with authenticity and a spirit of service. Focus on how you can add value to others, and you’ll find that the support you need will come naturally.

For anyone just starting out, I’d say this: Be patient with yourself. Developing these qualities takes time and intentional effort. Stay curious, stay humble, and remember that every step—no matter how small—is part of your growth. And most importantly, don’t lose sight of your “why.” When you’re clear on your purpose, it becomes your compass, guiding you through every challenge and opportunity.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

One book that has profoundly influenced my development is “The Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren. It’s a book that not only deepened my faith but also helped me align my personal and professional life with a greater sense of purpose. It’s one of those reads that stays with you, offering wisdom that you can apply in every season of life.

One of the most impactful lessons from the book is the idea that “It’s not about you.” This simple yet profound statement shifted my perspective on success and leadership. It reminded me that true fulfillment comes from serving others and contributing to something bigger than myself. This principle has been a cornerstone of my work with Kingdom Business Builders, where the focus is on empowering others and creating a community rooted in faith and integrity.

Another nugget of wisdom is the emphasis on living with intentionality. The book challenges you to ask, “What on earth am I here for?” and to align your daily actions with your purpose. For me, this meant reevaluating how I spent my time and energy, ensuring that my work and relationships reflected my values. It’s a practice I continue to this day, and it’s been instrumental in helping me stay grounded and focused.

Lastly, the book’s message about trusting God’s plan has been a source of comfort and strength. Life doesn’t always go as we expect, but knowing that there’s a greater plan at work has helped me navigate challenges with faith and resilience. It’s a reminder that even in the toughest moments, there’s an opportunity for growth and a purpose to be fulfilled.

For anyone looking to deepen their sense of purpose and live a more intentional life, I can’t recommend The Purpose Driven Life enough. It’s a book that not only inspires but also equips you with practical wisdom to live a life of meaning and impact.
