Meet Robert Ramos

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Robert Ramos a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Robert , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I got my work ethic from my parents. They both came from Mexico to make a better life for them and for my siblings and I. I saw them both work long and hard and attend meetings with the local government to help our schools and recreational parks get better funding. They raised 5 children, worked full time jobs and still managed to learn english. I also got my work ethic from my independence. I was told by my parents that if i chose to pursue a career in Hair over college i would be on my own. So choosing to be on my own I had to make sure I figure things out quickly to survive. I knew i had to make it in this industry, I had no choice but to swim and not sink.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’ve been a hairstylist my entire life. It’s all I do, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. My career has taken me all over the world, working with incredible artists, actors, singers, entrepreneur each one bringing a new challenge and inspiration. But no matter where I go or who I work with, one thing stays the same: I’m always striving to be better.

As a dedicated Co-Owner of Ramos Carreon Salon we are always on the cutting edge, constantly learning and embracing the latest trends. Commitment to innovation and excellence is at the heart of everything we do. Our stylists are the best in the city and have the same passion and commitment.

That’s why I’m so excited to relaunch my hairstyling products. They’ve been completely upgraded, new ingredients, better performance, and a fresh look. The bottom line? They just work better. If you thought they were good before, wait until you see what they can do now.

This relaunch isn’t just about products; it reflects how I approach my work. I never settle. Whether it’s perfecting a style, refining a formula, or pushing myself creatively, I believe there’s always room to grow. And, of course, I like to have fun while doing it, because great hair should be effortless and exciting.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, being knowledgeable helped me stay ahead in my field, and I had willingness to learn that kept me adaptable, and one of the most important is professionalism ensured that I always made a great impression. I was never afraid to ask questions no matter what people may have thought of me. That was how I learned. I am always on time, prepared and ready to go!!! I find also like to have fun while at work.
For those starting out, I’d recommend focusing on gaining as much knowledge as possible, staying open to new experiences and learning opportunities, and always presenting yourself professionally. Always make sure you look at your best, Hair combed and or styled, clothes looking neat and clean and most importantly be on time!!!

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

I would say the most impactful thing my parents did for me were to tell me that when I graduated from Cosmetology College that I had a choice:
I would go to community college and they would help me buy a car and if I did well they would help me get an apartment. or
I would start my career in hairstyling and I was on my own. Being that I had to stay true to myself I chose to move back to LA and start my career. I was scary and exciting all at the same time. I was 18 years old, so I had the energy!!!!
