We recently connected with Robert Rodriguez and have shared our conversation below.
Robert , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
“I believe my positive outlook and growth mindset play a crucial role in my resilience. I tend to see challenges as opportunities to learn and grow.”
My resilience comes from a blend of several factors. Firstly, I have a positive outlook and a growth mindset, which help me view challenges as opportunities for growth. My Mom milagros provide invaluable support, keeping me motivated and grounded. Past experiences, like starting and growing Yellow Butterfly Coffee, have taught me a lot about my strengths and abilities. Additionally, my faith gives me peace and perspective, while maintaining my physical and mental health through regular exercise and mindfulness practices keeps me strong. Finally, my passion for my business and the goals I set for myself drive me to overcome obstacles. All these elements together form the foundation of my resilience
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
As the founder of Yellow Butterfly Coffee, my role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities. I oversee everything from sourcing high-quality beans and managing day-to-day operations to developing marketing strategies and expanding our brand’s reach. I am deeply involved in every aspect of the business, ensuring that our coffee maintains its exceptional quality and that our customers have an outstanding experience.
What excites me the most about running Yellow Butterfly Coffee is the opportunity to connect with people from all walks of life. Coffee has a unique way of bringing people together, and through our company, I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many fascinating individuals. Each cup of coffee tells a story, whether it’s about the farmers who cultivate our beans with care or the customers who share their personal experiences over a cup.
One of the most special aspects of my job is hearing the stories of our customers. For instance, I’ve met entrepreneurs who come to our café to brainstorm their next big idea, students who find comfort and focus while studying, and travelers who make it a point to visit us during their trips to Seattle. These interactions not only enrich my life but also inspire me to continually improve and innovate.
In addition to our local success, we are thrilled to announce our plans for expanding Yellow Butterfly Coffee to France. This expansion represents an exciting new chapter for us. France has a rich coffee culture and a deep appreciation for quality and craftsmanship, making it the perfect place for our next venture. We are eager to bring our unique blend of flavors and the story of Yellow Butterfly Coffee to French coffee lovers.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
As the founder of Yellow Butterfly Coffee, three key skills have been particularly impactful in my journey:
1. Leadership and Vision:
• Having a clear vision for Yellow Butterfly Coffee has been crucial. My ability to lead with this vision has helped guide the company’s growth and ensure that we stay true to our core values. Leadership involves making tough decisions, inspiring the team, and continuously steering the company towards our long-term goals. This skill has been vital in maintaining our brand’s integrity and achieving milestones like our planned expansion to France.
2. Networking and Relationship Building:
• Building strong relationships has been essential to our success. Whether it’s with coffee bean farmers, employees, customers, or potential business partners, my ability to connect and build trust has helped us create a supportive and loyal community. These relationships have not only provided us with high-quality products and services but also enriched my experience by meeting people with diverse backgrounds and stories, further inspiring the growth and innovation of Yellow Butterfly Coffee.
3. Adaptability and Problem-Solving:
• The journey of running a business is filled with unexpected challenges. My adaptability and problem-solving skills have allowed me to navigate these challenges effectively. From managing operational issues to responding to market changes and customer feedback, being flexible and finding creative solutions has been key to overcoming obstacles and seizing new opportunities. This skill has also been crucial as we prepare to enter the French market, where understanding and adapting to a new cultural and business environment will be vital.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
One book that has significantly influenced my development is ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad’ by Robert Kiyosaki. This book fundamentally changed the way I think about money, investing, and financial independence.
The principles from ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad’ inspired me to take a more entrepreneurial approach to my career, ultimately leading to the founding of Yellow Butterfly Coffee. It taught me to see opportunities where others might see obstacles, to take calculated risks, and to continually seek out knowledge and self-improvement.
