Meet Roberta Morris

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Roberta Morris. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Roberta below.

Roberta, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I was always an artistic person—coming from a family of creative individuals: writers, crafters, metal workers, artists, photographers, and the musically inclined. You might say creativity is in my blood.

As far back as as I can remember, I’ve incorporated graphic design into my school assignments and personal projects. I enjoyed many subjects in school, but art has always been my first love.

When I went to college I wanted to major in something art related, but didn’t want to be a starving artist. Majoring in graphic design combined creativity with a practical career path. I was fortunate enough to have great professors who taught me the skills needed to succeed. One professor in particular really supported and mentored me, serving as a great role model being a female professor in a male-dominated department.

Throughout my 30+-year career, I’ve had several directors who helped me refine my skills, realize by leadership potential, and improve my communication. Without these role models, I wouldn’t be half the design leader I am today. I’m fortunate to work in a field that allows me to be creative every day!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

As a Creative Director, I see myself as a collaborator, having worked with a range of clients from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies. My goal is always to help organizations brand and promote their products in a consistent and thoughtful way, so I place an emphasis on listening to clients throughout the creative process to deliver strategic, high-impact design solutions that exceed expectations.

I offer a variety of services, including logos, slogans, collateral, and packaging, with a focus on quality and creativity. Whatever the brand, Leave It to ’Berta!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been creativity, collaboration, and continuous learning. These have shaped my career in design and helped me become a more well-rounded person.

Creativity: Consistently pushing boundaries and thinking outside the box has been key to my success. I once had a creative director tell me I was a “fount of ideas”. To nurture creativity, embrace curiosity about the world around you, experiment with ideas, and don’t be afraid to take risks in your work. Some of the most successful creative people have broken the mold.

Collaboration: Working closely with clients and colleagues is essential to creating impactful designs. It’s not just about the ideas or pushing pixels around. Focusing on developing strong communication, listening, and empathy are key to building meaningful relationships with people who can give you honest feedback to improve your work.

Continuous Learning: The design field evolves rapidly, so staying current with trends and new tools is crucial. Make a habit of continual learning—whether through courses, reading, or hands-on experience. Always be on the lookout for new knowledge and inspiration.

But most importantly, don’t rush the process—embrace growth, be open to learning from others, and stay true to your creative vision. The journey is as important as the destination!

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

As a creative in a new market, I’m always open to collaborating with others who share a passion for creativity and impactful design. I’m particularly interested in working with:
• Like-minded creative professionals (designers, illustrators, photographers, writers) who bring unique skills and perspectives to the table.
• Brand strategists and marketers which whom I can partner to develop compelling narratives and strategies alongside my design work.
• Businesses or entrepreneurs looking for thoughtful branding and design solutions to elevate their brands and take them to the next level.
If you’re interested in collaborating, I’d love to hear from you! Feel free to reach out through my website at leaveittoberta.com or LinkedIn, or simply drop me an email at roberta@leaveittoberta to discuss potential projects or partnerships. I look forward to hearing from you!
