We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Robin Gentry Mcgee. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Robin below.
Robin, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I found my purpose after my father’s traumatic brain injury. As my father lay dying in a coma, out of boredom, I picked up the can of the “food”, the enteral nutrition product that had been his sole source nutrition for many months. I read the ingredients and I was mortified.
At that very moment it became my mission to create food for him. This led me down a road to examine the healing properties of food and which I based the food I began preparing for him. The outcome, six short weeks after we started giving him the formula, was so dramatic his doctor phoned me to tell me what a miracle it was. Not a miracle, I replied, simply nutritious food. This set me on a course to eventually change clinical nutrition worldwide and patients now have an option on what they chose to put into their bodies.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
After exiting Functional Formularies® in 2013, my passion to bring healthy organic food to the masses continued. Another gap I saw in the marketplace was the military Meals Ready to Eat (MREs) as well as the availability of shelf stable chef prepared meals in general. Most all of the food in the outdoor food category is freeze dried or dehydrated. We have searched the globe looking for cleanest raw ingredients we can find. Our products are organic/regenerative, grass fed, grass finished, non-GMO, gluten free and no refined sugar. Our new line of Essential Provisions® MREs will launch late March 2025 and Sports Blends should be available late June 2025.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Willingness to research, understand and know who your target market is.
2. Do not be afraid to take risks. You cannot be successful in business without taking risks, it’s really that simple.
3. When someone tells you it cannot be done, that just means you’re talking to the wrong person. Do not listen to the naysayers. Find a mentor. Do not be afraid to ask questions, nor, to question things that do not feel right. Always trust your gut.
What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
This depends. One cannot be all things to all people so if launching your dream involves stepping outside your comfort zone and investing time and money, ask yourself what is the ROI. Consider if there are those more skilled than you and recruit an advisory board to help and support you.
